Russia Warns of New Missile Deployment (After the US Election)
The New York Times ^ | 2008-11-05 | Ellen Barry and Sophia Kishkovsky

MOSCOW — In a wide-ranging attack on the United States as it elected a new president, the Russian leader Dmitri Medvedev warned on Wednesday that Moscow might deploy short-range missiles in the Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad to counter a perceived threat from a proposed American missile defense shield in eastern Europe.

His remarks, in his first state of the nation address since assuming the presidency in May, coincided with the election of Barack Obama and offered a chill glimpse into the potential issues and tensions confronting the new American leader when he takes office in January.

Mr. Medvedev did not specifically congratulate Mr. Obama on his victory, saying only that he hoped that “our partners _ the new U.S. administration _ will make a choice in favor of full-fledged relationship with Russia.”

At the same time, however, he spoke of a “new configuration for the military forces of our country” that would include abandoning plans to dismantle some missile regiments.

4 to 8 years from now a Republican will be elected to clean up the mess left behind, and repair the damage to our national defense.

If there's anything left to clean up.

I weep for Ukraine and Georgia today. It’s really a terrible day for all struggling democracies, including our own.

Obama will abandon the missile defense shield, he will abandon our Allies including Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia, Ukraine, Georgia, Romania, Bulgaria and especially Israel. Iraq will fall into the hands of the Persians and the Taliban will again rule in Afghanistan. Freedom as we know it has ended, Europe has entered the New Dark Ages. They have gotten what they have desired for so long, an end to America as we know it and with it a new darkness will sweep over the world. Sad times indeed...

Bush will do nothing, he is not a Conservative. He has no true conviction except that which has misled him up till now.

When socialists get into power they rig the subsequent elections to stay in power. In fact there were a great number of irregularities in this election. In 4 to 8 years from now I expect work camps will be all the new rage for dealing with those who have not gotten their minds right.

Obama win restores world's hope in U.S.: expert
Updated Wed. Nov. 5 2008 7:58 AM ET
Andy Johnson, CTV.ca News

TORONTO -- Barack Obama's stunning U.S. election win Tuesday will be seen as a symbol of hope to a world that is largely jaded with U.S. leadership, says one expert.

Leading up to the election, several major, international polls showed that if the world could vote, Obama would easily be carried to the White House on the shoulders of all but a few nations.

Beth Fischer, a political science professor at the University of Toronto, said his victory will be welcomed by a world that is weary of George W. Bush.

"Not only has Obama energized the American electorate, he has energized public opinion in many regions throughout the world," Fischer told CTV.ca. ....

And my favorite portion of this story:
Across Europe, Asia and the Americas millions spent all night celebrating the Obama win, and even in much of the Islamic world Muslims celebrated a new start for relations with the U.S.

The world is certain now that we are weak — we’ve elected a joke of a President.

They are laughing at us right now, while wringing their hands at their new prospects.

They know our hawks took a beating with 0bama being elected. Hell, he’s promised to all but send our military home on permanent vacation during his campaign.

After we soak in socialism’s poison a while we will be primed and ready to be attacked.

The spineless 0bamunists will kiss our enemies *sses at the UN and patiently await the next missile impact.

I’m still very concerned about Biden’s “Mark my words...” comments.

Don't worry,Comrade Putin....our new President Hussein agrees with you.For the next four years you can invade your small (minute is more like it) newly liberated neighbors with *absolute* impunity. But if the price of oil continues to fall......

No he can’t and furthermore he WON’T. He won’t do anything and in fact he will immediately stop doing what he has been doing.

“4 to 8 years from now a Republican will be elected to clean up the mess left behind, and repair the damage to our national defense.”
Wishful thinking! In 4 to 8 years, Russia and China will have eaten our lunch. We will be so far behind, there will be no catching up. Taiwan will be China again. S. Korea will be gone. Israel? If still in existence, will no longer trust us. Eastern Europe will again be part of a resurgent USSR.

They are not planning to give you 4 years. Now Obama can only buy time by being so lousy of a president that they let him live longer to destroy more. My guess is nuclear war on earth within Obamas first term.

Hey, look at the bright side, it will be a change!

Perhaps right. When our largest coastal cities get hit with with a Russian first strike, factor in the coastal cities as not voting.

Now what you get?

Yep, Conservative.

Liberalism is a self correcting issue like Cancer.

China will be all over Taiwan by this time next year.

I called that one for the day after the inauguration a couple of weeks ago, after Biden said Obama would be "tested", those of us on one of the too-many threads about it were making our picks. It looks like whoever picked Russia is taking it. Good thing we weren't playing for money (probably the Russia picker doesn't think so).

I think what Khruschev said was, “We will Barry you.” BTW, I had Russia in the pool, but I didn’t expect it this soon.
