MOSCOW — In a wide-ranging attack on the United States as it elected a new president, the Russian leader Dmitri Medvedev warned on Wednesday that Moscow might deploy short-range missiles in the Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad to counter a perceived threat from a proposed American missile defense shield in eastern Europe.

His remarks, in his first state of the nation address since assuming the presidency in May, coincided with the election of Barack Obama and offered a chill glimpse into the potential issues and tensions confronting the new American leader when he takes office in January.

Mr. Medvedev did not specifically congratulate Mr. Obama on his victory, saying only that he hoped that “our partners _ the new U.S. administration _ will make a choice in favor of full-fledged relationship with Russia.”

At the same time, however, he spoke of a “new configuration for the military forces of our country” that would include abandoning plans to dismantle some missile regiments.

Right now, the world looks like one big playground to the Kremlin. The weaklings better run for cover.

So now all that terrible monitoring of international phone calls for terrorist activity is going to end. All those “lost” freedoms we hear about all the time are going to be restored, Gitmo is going to be closed and we can start trying the enemy combatants in our criminal courts.

Peace in our time!

You watch. Obama will kill SDI on day one. Of course, the Russian missiles will remain in place. See Ralph Peters. It is in the underlying article for that thread.

4 to 8 years from now a Republican will be elected to clean up the mess left behind, and repair the damage to our national defense.

“Bitter, exhausted laughter. Who had Russia in the pool? I took China, so I’m out”

We should have listened to that Khrushchev fellow “Whether you like it or not, history is on our side. We will bury you ... Nikita Khrushchev, remark at the Polish embassy in Moscow, Nov. 18, 1956”.

They fouled our fields with Pueraria lobata (Kudzo), yet we did nothing, because our yields were high, even after our yields began to decline we still did nothing to root out the invasive vine. Now our fields are choked with this cursed vine and our crops are threatened, what shall we do?

The U.S. will retreat and disarm, while the New Soviet Union emerges.

China will be all over Taiwan by this time next year.
