CNSNews.com) Facing the most liberal president and Congress in a generation, conservative stalwarts do not blame the GOPs disastrous election performance solely on Republican nominee John McCain or on President George W. Bush. The ultimate culprit, some say, has been big government Republicanism.
Long-time conservative activist Richard Viguerie thinks the Republican Partys problem this year is not unlike its problem in previous election cycles.
Moderate and liberal have not done very well, Viguerie, the chairman of ConservativeHQ.com, told CNSNews.com. Both Bushes had problems, and Bush the son nearly destroyed the Republican Party. People are looking for a clear conservative choice.
Grover Norquist, president of Americans for Tax Reform, said this is not the first time Republicans have had a bad election cycle.
We will get the same advice from the establishment press, which will advise the party to move left, he said. But when that was tried, it did not work, Norquist told CNSNews.com.
He said Republicans win by running on President Ronald Reagans ideas and lose when they move left. He cited President George H. W. Bushs failed reelection campaign in 1992 after running successfully as a Reagan tax-cutter in 1988, as well as Bob Dole in 1996 who had previously opposed the Reagan tax cuts, and now McCain, who has supported legislation on campaign finance reform and global warming.

Well, one bright spot, Christopher Shays of Conn is done!
I feel absolutely demoralized. I feel like they destroyed Sarah.
How different today might have been if the RINO-Republicans
had not sent their minions to attack Gov. Palin.
Yeah... “compassionate conservativism” was suuuuuuuch a big winner for America. Thanks, Bush.
Heck with the GOP. They’re Democrat-lite. Only a handful of GOP’ers are worth their salt.
It is time for a third party, the GOP is dead, friends.
yeah...crime pays
I hope the RNC has learned its lesson...it was Sarah Palin, not John McCain that brought people out to the polls.
Sadly, judging from Tim Pawlenty’s remarks on C-BS last night, I think Repubicans will continue to move center in this misguided notion that the middle can be won. I don’t believe 2010 will be a good year if this hold true. I hope the conservatives prevail in waking up the Republicans, if not I feel for this country. I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard Pawlenty last night. UGH!
ON THE OTHER HAND, if Republicans can stick together and STALL for two years and regain a majority in the Senate then PERHAPS this won’t be so bad! At least that’s what I’m hoping.
Don’t be. This to shall pass.
He said Republicans win by running on President Ronald Reagans ideas
and Newt’s contract with America
SINLESS=SPINLESS
Yea but 2010 is a big year GOP seats not Dems, 2012 is our next real shot at anything.
McLame was always the worst candidate. The in-fighting in the party along with the media helped pick the worst possible candidate. He was doomed from the start. Until we clean the GOP house and get rid of the RINOs and stealth socialists we will NEVER win another major election
Define RINO. My problem is way to many people here have a to broad defination to RINO and a to narrow defination of Conservative.
It’s to late, 25 million illegals will be granted citizenship before 2010. Conservatism will no longer influence our country.
It has been a temporary setback. Destroyed her? Heck, they just opened wide the door for her. An Obama presidency, if there isn't a super-majority in Congress, is going to have problems from the get-go.
Look ahead.
I disagree.
