Pray for our Nation & President-Elect Obama - Day 1

Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect. (Matthew 5:43-48)

Dear Heavenly Father, I come to You this evening with a broken heart and a humble spirit. I confess I do not understand why this political election was lost - but then again, I also confess that I believe I know many of the reasons why, as we all do, and our hearts are saddened. Father, in accordance with Romans 13:1, I acknowledge Your sovereignty over all matters and I know that it was in accordance with Your will that Barack Obama has been appointed our President-Elect. And so I submit to Your will, even in this most difficult time for our nation and we seek Your face.

Lord Jesus, I know during the time that You lived here on this earth, there were men named Caesars who had great authority in all of the empire. These Caesars were worshipped as gods by the citizens of the empire and those who would not bow were persecuted. I know that may be our story. I will not worship a man as if he is a god. He is not. Still, just as the apostle Paul did under that wicked ruler Nero, who ultimately beheaded him, so do I out of an act of obedience to You and out of our love for You and our nation, I do humbly pray for this man - whom I and many Freepers believe is a danger to our freedom, our way of living, and perhaps even our lives. I pray Lord, that You would touch his heart. Touch his mind. Touch his will. Transform them. Make him a vessel of glory to You and something good for this nation. Save his soul that he may be a new creation. For our sakes and for Your name's sake, we pray these things just as Paul spoke of in 1 Timothy 2:1-4 (I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone-- for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. This is good, and pleases God our Savior, who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.) under that wicked man Nero.

Lord, we asked for mercy. Perhaps this IS mercy. Sure doesn't feel like it. But we trust in You.

We know that this very well may be judgment. If so, we deserve it as a nation. We have allowed our minds to be polluted with things that are not honoring to You. We have polluted the land with so many murders of the unborn that if you were to strike us from the face of the planet - that alone would be more than justified. We have turned our backs on Israel, our friend, and the apple of Your eye - and we have forced them to negotiate with those who want to destroy her. But again, we know that ultimately, this is all in your plan as well; and as we see time progressing, we can not help but think our time is short. Even so come, Lord Jesus. This world is not our home. But while we are here, may we be a light that shows forth Your glory to the ends of the earth.

Father, some Freepers know that I started the Pray for Bush threads back in 1999 under the name Dittojed. Well, we have come full circle, and this time many of my fellow freepers may feel as if their prayers were not answered. They are understandably frightened. They are hurt. Comfort them. Remind them of the joy of trusting in simply you. And help them to carry forward pursuing those inalienable rights which You have bestowed upon all men, as our founders so richly proclaimed.

Father, I pray for Senator McCain. Help him through this loss. I know as one who gave so much for his country, it must be very painful to see those who protested his efforts now in power. Give peace to his soul, and let him know Christ in ways that he never even imagined were possible.

Bless Governor Palin and her family. This election she was new to many of us on Free Republic and to the world and boy did we grow to love her. Should You tarry, I pray Your greatest blessings upon this great woman of God. May Satan's devices never prevail against her; and through this pain may she be even stronger and even more equipped to do Your will.

We love You Lord, even though we do not understand. But as I close this prayer, I bring forward the words of Charles Haddon Spurgeon - that wise old Baptist sage - "God is too good to be unkind; He is too wise to be mistaken, and when you cannot trace His hand, you can always trust His heart."

In everything and in every situation, even the sad ones, we give thanks to You - for this pleases You and You are worthy of our eternal praise.

In the blessed name of Christ Jesus my Lord I pray these things. Amen & Maranatha.

I don’t seem to know our nation anymore. I’m sorry, but I can’t pray for Obama right now. I will pray for the military, whom some Americans have stabbed in the back this evening. Peace is in the Lord I know, but, there is a knot in my stomach that just doesn’t get that right now.

You are a better person than I am.

For Obama? - NFW, we know what he is. You do not pray for those who openly work to hurt you. You crush them.

We will not worship him. We will be obedient. Just read over the prayer and you’ll see the intent. Our country has just made a horrific error in judgment. We need the Lord. If you can’t pray for him, I do understand. It is very very painful - particularly when we consider how close our Sarah was to the national stage.

But right now, prayer is the only thing that ultimately will turn this nation around.

To clarify. We will be obedient to the Lord. Not necessarily our government. If our government enacts laws that go against those principles which the Bible lays forth and tries to take away our freedom to worship God, we will be as the apostles. Still, this Christian will pray. If I pray alone. I pray alone. That’s okay.

That’s okay, LUV W. That is enough. You recognize the danger. You recognize the only source that can repair the damage our nation has done - not just with Obama. He is the end result of a lot of evil this country has thumbed its nose at for quite some time.

Good grief, I DEFINTELY never thought I would say this, but Reverend Wright was partially right. America’s chickens HAVE come home to roost. She has asked for that which is antichrist and she is getting him. May God save us from ourselves.
