2012 - Top Contenders

Posted on 11/04/2008 8:09:33 PM PST by frankiep

OK, the United Socialist States of America has just elected it's new Führer. The question now is who today are the top contenders for the Republican nomination in 2012?

Sarah Palin Bobby Jindal Michael Steele Mike Huckabee someone else?

Let's face the facts, the Republican Party is a total mess right now, and now is the time to close the book on GWB, John McCain and all the other 'reach across the aisle' Republicans that have turned this party into a shell of it's former self. So, who are your favorites in 2012?

I am officially done with the GOP. NOW is the time for Conservatives to move to a 3rd Party. That will give us 4 years to organize and motivate. If we wait until 2011, we will again be corralled behind a loser GOP candidate.

Between now and then, we need to dig up candidates for the more local races to run under a 3rd party - and get the ball rolling. Here where I voted, there was a long column on the ballot for unopposed candidates. There is no excuse - and nearly all were Democrats.

And don’t get me wrong - I love Sarah Palin, but she is now tainted goods. I just don’t see her as viable in 4 years. WE need completely new blood - and a new party to go along.

OH - and if the current numbers hold up - it looks like McCain didn’t do a whole lot better than Bob Dole in the Electoral column.... what a sad commentary...

IMHO, if Palin’s going to have a prayer she needs to hope Stevens gets reelected then kicked out of the Senate. She can replace him with herself and begin rehabilitating her image, make a name for herself on the national stage (take the GOP lead on energy policy, for instance) and become a respected leader in the new GOP.

Au contraire. Obama’s policies, and a heavily dem Congress will be such a disaster that a one term presidency is very likely IMO.

And a strong conservative candidate who can connect with the American people and explain the virtues of conservatism will win an election no matter what year it is.

Huckabee’s the a$$clown that wouldn’t pull out just to spite Romney. Because of him, we were stuck with McCain. He’s toast.

I agree, Huckabee needs to get lost. Smallminded clown.

Lets take this one step at a time. Next up, taking back the House in 2010. We need to study up on how it happened with Newt & the 1994 bunch. Starting TOMORROW we need some of our Conservative leaders to get electable people to move into vulnerable Districts and run. For example, I live in Southwest Missouri. We have had Ike Skelton here since the Eisenhower administration I think. He won again tonight. He’s way to old and really needs to be retired. We need Tom DeLay and others to step up and run again! And any Republican who gets in any sort of scandal should NEVER willingly step down!!! As for President, my first pick right now would probably be Shawn Hannity, even though he would have to take a pay cut!

Sorry, but there’s no way Jindal should take a back seat to Palin. Those interviews where she froze and gave fodder to the Democrats would have been knocked out of the park by Jindal. Those openings she had during the debates with Biden but let pass, would have been exploited by Jindal.

There is no way conservatives can afford to nominate someone the libs can claim is a dullard. Even if not true, perception is all that matters.

No. Keep her out of the cess pool that is Washington. Especially now that it will literally be infested with marxist democrats. Senators do not make good presidents.

Bobby Jindahl...now that the Dems can’t use the racism card anymore since the country elected O, Jindahl is a smart and effective leader. I’ve been very impressed with his comments and approach. I believe he is of Indian descent so “race” would not be something the Obamabots could use for distortion and it would come down to ideology, wisdom and actual issues. And something tells me the Big O is going to have his foot in his mouth quite abit over the next 4 years, especially in the first 6 months like Biden said. That or he’ll get too chummy to some world leaders he shouldn’t and the country starts smelling the stench of his true intentions.

Bobby Jindal, but not until 2016.. Palin is a happy gal. She will go back to her happy life. I wish her God’s speed.

Sorry folks, but it’s going be very hard to wean the middle class off of the government breast. The idiots are going to be very happy with their “free” handouts... and the terrorists will work on their plans while we work on giving them free tuition when they enter our country... and enter they will.

I’m buying a gun... I’m buying a lot of guns. I don’t see good times ahead...

Idiots, the lot of them.. This is Rome.

I agree. Palin did not seemed prepared for what was coming to her, and this will haunt her in the future. As much as I wanted to believe that she was up to the challenge, she didn’t really offer anything much more substantial than repeating talking points.

Don’t know enough about Jindal yet, although I’m sure that we will start hearing more and more from him.

NOT Huckabee!!! NEVER Huckabee!!! He was the one who threw this into John McCain’s lap to make room for himself in 2012. He should never be rewarded for what he caused!!!

That cesspool's got to be cleaned out eventually. She could probably be quite effective there.

If she's going to do anything outside of Alaska she's going to have to rehab her national image.

Add Eric Cantor to the list. He has to have some place in the national party.

1) PALIN

2) Also-rans

I agree with the sentiment, but amongst the also rans I prefer Bobby Jindal as her second.

Unfortunately, as you can see by the GOP nominating McCain this time - whose only real saving grace in the election was bringing Sarah Palin into national prominence - the GOP looks to continually nominate those who “deserve it.” So, look for Romney and Huckabee to get serious recognition.
