While John McCain's campaign has tried to tie its Democratic rival to socialism, one of the Arizona Republican's top surrogates said Barack Obama is not a socialist.
McCain's campaign had seized on Sen. Obamas statements that he plans to spread the wealth around and sought to tie the Illinois Democrat to socialism.
But former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), while arguing that Obamas economic plan is a job-killer, said Monday on CBSs Early Show: You know, I dont think Barack Obamas a socialist. I think a lot of his policies are inspired by the pathway [that] Europe took. I think the idea of having the government take over healthcare and raise taxes on employers is the wrong direction for the country.
Romney, who was the GOP surrogate tasked with appearing on all of the morning talk shows, also said both candidates are terrific men, when asked if the country would be in good hands if the Democrat is elected.
Ill be very concerned about the economy for the country. Ill be concerned that the economy will be in a slow-down or a recession for a longer, deeper period, Romney stated. I'll be concerned about long term, about a president who would raise taxes on businesses and, if you will, through this intimidation, impose unions on small businesses.
Well in all fairness to Massachusetts Mitt, his own policies in the Bay State are probably pretty similar to Obama’s. I hope Romney kool-aid drinkers will realize just how moderate to liberal he still is.
yeah. he wants 2012, he is not gonna get.
There aught to be a litmus test for politicians so we can discard them immediately.
WE NEED STATESMEN! (and romney’s not one.)
Obama’s a full blown Marxist! Eats socialists for breakfast.
How STUPID we are....Mitt you are an IDIOT, and you just made yourself a USEFUL TOOL.
Mitt who?
One socialist to another.

And how...
Well, it’s too late for Mitt to just STFU now, isn’t it?
You know, I dont think Barack Obamas a socialist. I think a lot of his policies are inspired by the pathway [that] Europe took.”
You mean, oh, I don’t know, SOCIALISM? Isn’t that what a socialist is? With a quick wit like that, no wonder Romney never got anywhere.
Mitt is right, Zero is not a socalist, he is Marxist. Only a Marxist needs a civilian security force or is it secret police or is it security service, I’ve listened to his statement, several times, it is as well funded and trained as the US military, but he doesn’t further elaborate if they are in uniform (security service) or plainclothes (secret police). so, Mitt is correct, he is not a socialist, but wrong in thinking he is benign, he is anything but, he is a Marxist (Chavez, Mao, Stalin, maybe some of those wonderful Africian leaders, could be role models).
Imagine if McCain had selected this ahole for veep.
Joe Isuzu doesn’t realize the government does not necessarily have to own the means of production. The redistribution of wealth can be achieved through sufficient control. Think police power, taxation, regulation, etc.
Obama has already established his wish to redistribute the wealth - confiscating more and more of our labor for his political ends.
The National SOCIALISTS did not require ownership of the means of production in pursuit of their goals. Wonder what would have happened to the business owners had they refused the regime?
Ohhhhh i see, he’s not a socialist, he’s just following the path taken by Europe. Got it Mitt.
Saying that, at this late stage, only plays into the hands of Zero... He could have dodged the direct question, and instead said that the "distribute the wealth policy is socialist (it's actually commie)
UGH
Okay folks. Let’s roll back eight or whatever months to when folks were canonizing Mitt around here.
Some of us were asking you to wait just a danged minute. And then you not so politely told us he was ‘the One’.
Can any of you understand why we didn’t like him now?
This guy was never a good Conservative, and I will never cast a vote for him.
Mitt Romney is a worthless smoldering pile of lawn scrapings.
