EDITORIAL: What if Democrats win it all?
The Washington Times ^ | 10/31/2008 | Washington Times Staff

Posted on 10/31/2008 3:24:35 PM PDT by DoughtyOne

If Barack Obama is elected into office as the 44th president of the United States on Nov. 4 and voters, in tandem, give the Democrats 60 seats in the Senate and give them a solid majority in the House. What happens after Inauguration Day?

Single-party rule is inherently totalitarian whether the people consent to it or not. In most cases, one-party states rise out of authoritarian regimes, including former monarchies, or socialist revolutions. There are currently seven - China, Cuba, Eritrea, Laos, Vietnam, Syria, Korea. The United States would become the eighth.

Single-party rule is something to fear in and of itself - particularly from a spending standpoint, regardless of which party has absolute power. From 2003 to 2005, George W. Bush and the Republican Congress created the largest expansion of Medicare in history the prescription-drug bill and started two wars. They also succeeded in creating the largest tax cut in history.

if they control both the executive branch and the legislative branch, they will inevitably begin to feud among themselves.

Agreed. And if the GOP somehow cracks up and splits into conservative & moderate pieces, the pressure will be enormous for the Jackasses to split as well.

Their coalition (marxists, intellectualoids, hippies, greenies, unions, Black Caucus, Blue Dogs, centrists, etc.) is just too big and clumsy; like an unstable uranium nucleus, it would eventually fall apart.

Then, who knows, a few RINOs may join forces with the Clintonistas to form a Centrist Coalition. Horrible, but still better than the looming socialist dictatorship. It would still give time to the Patriotic FRee Forces to rebuild (with a little help from the Libertarians).

Please remember that the Dixie Mafia’s own Bill Clinton had a majority Congress for the first two years of his term in office. And he promptly lost it after some things scared the carp out of the U.S. public.

Obama doesn’t have tens of people who have died in his inner circle.

Don’t be so sure the teflon Obam won’t lose Congress in 2010.

The problem is, half the workforce is made up of Conservatives. Stop buying at your own risk. No sales, no jobs...

It’s the Democrats who believe in destroying the nation to save it. You and I don’t.

I still don’t see the attraction some on our side of the aisle have with recruiting a moderate Democrat to join the Republicans. He’d fall to the left of Maine’s Dynamic RINO Duo.

how often do you see a dictatorship turned into a democracy?

Rarely, but it can happen at least partially, e.g.:

The Philippines, post-Marcos.

Romania, Poland & other former Soviet-bloc nations.

Chile, post-Pinochet.

Nicaragua, post-Sandinistas.

Those are all fragile results, by no means permanent, and often reversible (as recent turnovers back to the leftists in Chile & Nicaragua indicate). The struggle of representative republics against despotism will continue for millennia; it's just human nature.

I disagree! Please, if you haven't yet, read 'Atlas Shrugged'. To destroy socialism in this country, we must be willing to inflict massive economic damage on this nation. Once they are destroyed, we can rebuild. The alternative is to become their slaves, surrendering the fruits of our labors.

And then there’s the issue of being kicked off Obambi’s campaign plane too.

Hard to accept that a wuss like Barry is sooo close to the levers of ultimate earthly power.

Yep, just like the old Soviet Union...

Interesting idea, BO as the American "Gorbachev", in power during the breakup of the USA, into the Independent States of America.

It won’t happen without our help. We will have to drive this. We will need to caucus and develop a strategy. The RNC isn’t going to drive this one. They’ve had their chance. They have proven they will fail us forever.

It’s time for Conservatives to develop a winning strategy that includes true Conservatives for the first time since 1980. Sarah Palin is a good core to build around. I’m all for it for 2012, but we need to loft our own for primaries and elections in 2010.

We can and must do an end run on the Republican party. We select good people. We get them to register. And then we push them all the way through.

We need a document that tells what we stand for, and when our leaders step outside that guideline, we kick their asses to the curb.

No more being undercut by our own boys in public, so that nobody will believe us when we tell them what we stand for.

Newt brought us Congress in 1994. It’s time for us to stand up and be heard, with a new contract with the American public that every single Republican House and Senate Candidate in the nation will have signed and promised to abide by prior to election day 2010.

And then we go out and canvas every single home in the active districts until we bring home victory.

And then we do it again in 2012, 2014, 2016, 2018...

The state and national party apparatus seems to be broken. Why are we steadily losing ground? We have the best product. We just have no salesmen.

Let’s fix that.

Anyone wishing to join such a cause, should state so here. Lets get going.

I’m not going to carry on a discussion with you on the topic.

My views have been made known, and I’m not advocating on behalf of Obama. My posting of this editorial should make that clear.

You’ll just have to come to terms with it.

Do liberals have more control or less control of the media now than they did in 1994?

I see him wielding an iron hand against any form of dissent. This has been intimated with his condemnation of “divisiveness”. He will have to move fast, and he has shown signs of doing so. What will we do if FR just disappears, along with LGF, etc. ? How would he do that? How would we know?

Single party rule is totalitarian? Hmmm...I wonder if they'd be writing this if the republicans were going to gain the house, the senate, and the presidency?

I now hate all media. There's not one newspaper that even pretends to be unbiased, and certainly no tv media that's unbiased.

Well, that’s why we hope like hell the Senate doesn’t become veto proof. That is a worst case scenario alright.

Did a public that voted for Clinton see the light after two years? Don’t count it out.
