Hollywood insiders rip MSNBC, defend Palin
Reuters ^

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - In a room full of television industry executives, no one seemed inclined to defend MSNBC on Monday for what some were calling its lopsidedly liberal coverage of the presidential election.

The cable news channel is "completely out of control," said writer-producer Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, a self-proclaimed liberal Democrat.

She added that she would prefer a lunch date with right-leaning Fox News star Sean Hannity over left-leaning MSNBC star Keith Olbermann.

Olbermann was criticized by many who attended Monday's luncheon sponsored by the Caucus for Producers, Writers & Directors at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The event was dubbed "Hollywood, America and Election '08."

Bloodworth-Thomason and others seemed especially critical of the way MSNBC -- and other media -- has attacked Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin while demeaning her supporters.

"We should stop the demonizing," she said, adding that Democrats have been worse than Republicans as far as personal attacks on candidates are concerned. "It diminishes us," she said of her fellow Democrats.

Bloodworth-Thomason even suggested a defense of Palin and her supporters should be written into TV programing, just as she went out of her way to portray Southern women as smart in her hit TV show "Designing Women."

Are you suggesting Brokaw has a sex/violence interest in young children too?

Woah. Was that a left-handed compliment or what?

I believe Linda is sending the MSM an emergency flare, warning them of their impending doom.

I may sound somewhat cynical here, but it's probably less about defending Palin than it is about a future television series. Of course it makes perfect sense to 'make nice' with those on the other side if you want your show to last more than a couple of seasons.

There’s two possibilities. One, these people feel the election’s in the bag and want to appear nice, not to mention ahead of the curve when the tide eventually turns against a Pres. Obama; or Two, these people realize that something unexpected is going to happen next week and they want to be on the good side of VP Palin. The only dead solid lock is that none of them actually cares about how Gov. Palin was treated.

Hollywood sounds worried...they know that last election cycle they angered people and it hurt the Dems....now they see the media doing the same thing....they’re trying to put the brakes on to prevent a McCain upset victory.

RE: “Bloodworth-Thomason is a longtime Friend of Billary... must be a closet PUMA”

Yep! Close friends of the Clintons! No way would this woman have defended Palin otherwise. I recall when the Clinton’s, or Bill anyway, visited those people at their beachfront home just south of Santa Barbara! Isn’t this fascinating!!!

I really don’t care what happens to MSNBC, and I see no reason why I should care.

She might be a closet Puma but her brother is not particulary a big O fan. Her Uncle Howard’s son is a judge and a republican, although I never figured him to be a strong republican. But they are some of the most honest, down to earth people I’ve ever met. Maybe Hollyweird hasn’t completely corrupted her.

The same thing was said about Rush Limbaugh when Bush won...

True, but Bush never had an all-powerful GOP Congress working with him and shutting out every Dem voice. First he had Lott's "sharing" leadership of the Senate, and it was pretty much downhill from there.

Keith Olberman reminds me of one of those monsters on the Muppets show. There is one that looks very much like him. I think of that every time I see him, which is not very often since I canot stomach that man.

She made a deal that every time she had to give a leftist rant, she’d get to sing in an episode. She sang a lot! One was a beautiful hymn or Christmas carol in church, but I don’t remember what it was right now.

Delta Burke as Suzanne Sugerbaker was absolutely hilarious. So I will have to admit, I love watching those reruns too.

Delta Burke is also one of the most beautiful women to pass through Hollywood in the past twenty-five years, despite her weight issues.

I'm serious, compare Delta at her heaviest to Sara Jessica Parker or any other "sex pot"(GAG) that the weirdos try to ram down our throats.

PLEASE. Rush has 20 million listners. He is funny. He is not always about politics. He is talented. KO has less than a million viewers. He is mean and nasty. All Keith has is politics. He has no talent.

And she’s married to Gerald McRaney — one of my favorite Hollywood hunks.
