Former Mitt Romney presidential campaign staffers, some of whom are currently working for Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin's bid for the White House, have been involved in spreading ant-Palin spin to reporters, seeking to diminish her standing after the election. "Sarah Palin is a lightweight, she won't be the first, not even the third, person people will think of when it comes to 2012," says one former Romney aide, now working for McCain-Palin. "The only serious candidate ready to challenge to lead the Republican Party is Mitt Romney. He's in charge on November 5th."

I don’t believe the story. Romney is pretty solid. I don’t think he’d even hint that he thought McCain would lose.
That’s the gist of this rumor: McCain Loses.
It’s another effort by some enemy hoping to suppress the vote.
That being said... anyone that supports the other side at this point (Powell, Barr, Pressler, Noonan, etc) will be SKUM from this day forward... If Romney is engaging in that, I would never support him for anything in the future...
As I said, though. I highly doubt this
"Death to the GOP and the rights of all citizens."
My God people - the dems have sure found a sore scab to pick with you Romney haters - haven’t they? You’re not going to believe the polls, but you jump to believe an “unnamed McCain/Palin” source??? Even though Romney himself has said nothing but nice things about Palin - you jump to believe this $hit?
Et tu - Freepers???
Something tells me many of us won’t support Romney in 2012.
His minions have acted like democrats in their treatment of Sarah.
Romney is in charge over my dead body. This is what I mean about having a God complex.
OK, let’s say I agree that Romney is off the hook - at least for now, benefit of the doubt and all that... if these guys are carrying the torch for Romney and undercutting our candidates, would you agree that they ought to be cleaned out, WHOEVER THEY ARE, and if they turn out to be Romney loyalists, THEN Romney ought to say something?
If it is true, that doesn't mean Romney is behind it. But the staffers should be summarily fired and never be allowed to work on a Republican campaign again.
They assume this is true, even thought they see the LIES from the MSM every day... Even with the constant support Mitt has provided for McCain and Palin...
Just disgusting.
I'm in Georgia, and I did the exact same thing for the same reason. Given the choice between Romney and Palin, knowing about this, I would choose Palin. [Note: My voice teacher, a staunch Democrat, crossed over and voted in the Republican primary. She voted for McCain.]
Wrong. It is SSDD for Romney.
The Massachusetts Republican Party died last Tuesday.
The cause of death: failed leadership.
The party is survived by a few leftover legislators
and a handful of county officials and grassroots activists
who have been ignored for years.
Services will be public and a mass exodus of taxpayers will follow.
In lieu of flowers, send messages to New Hampshire Republican voters
warning them about a certain presidential candidate named Romney.
- Boston Herald, 11/12/2006
"In 2006, while Romney was chairman of the National Republican
Governors Association - a group dedicated to electing more
Republican governors - his own hand-picked Republican successor
as governor lost badly to the Democrat, despite the fact that Republicans
have held the governorship in Massachusetts since 1990. Romney largely
ignored the Massachusetts elections and spent most of the time
during the campaign out of state building his presidential campaign.
He came back and publicly campaigned for the Republican candidate
the day before the general election!
Locally, this is a rebuke to Mitt Romney and checking out within six months
after being elected and having accomplished almost nothing,
[Jim] Rappaport [former chairman of the state Republican Party]."
- Boston Globe, 11/8/2006
Romney doesn’t have a future in the GOP. I only voted for him in an attempt to prevent McCain from becoming the nominee.
Agreed. And Romney will be pushing it in age by then anyway. With the new youth movement in politics, including the GOP with the likes of Palin and Jindal, Romney’s days as a presidential prospect are over.
Nice. You assume this is a true story. You can’t wait to jump all over it. You’ve been played. Big time, and your hate blinds you. You have no shame
I read in another article that the litmus test for the future is “where did you stand on Palin”
I concur, for me, Palin is the new leader and will be for the foreseeable future...
It is disgusting! This is why we have McCain as a candidate right now - because some conservatives couldn't unite to support the candidate with the best chance of winning. Frikkin' backstabbers - we are our own worst enemy - Romney has been nothing but loyal to the party - get over it people. United we stand, divided we fall.
Mitt’s second only to Sarah Palin, in his capability to personally sway and motivate those who support (him).
I think Mitt should use forums such as FNC this morning not to just “support” the ticket, but address his supporters directly. Say he understands and appreciates their support, and asks them to channel that support to Sarah.
Say her name. Send the Mittens the message, right from Mitt himself: Sarah needs our full support.
Say it Mitt.
Loudly. Often. From now until the election.
