Mary Mapes, the former CBS News Sixty Minutes producer who lost her job in the wake of the Rathergate scandal has published an essay entitled The Monster is Dying at the Huffington Post celebrating the pending victory of Barack Obama and the demise of her conservative internet tormenters, including Free Republic.
Mapes likens the domination of conservatives and the McCain-Palin campaign to Fifties sci-fi flicks where the mad scientist gets it in the end but the pretty female assistant survives.
Mapes, who was fired after forged documents were used in a Sixty Minutes hit piece on President George W. Bush in September 2004 in an effort by CBS News to undermine Bush's re-election bid, mocks Republicnas for using "phony" imagery and "bogeymen."
An excerpt from Mapes' gloat-fest:
Americans aren't responding to the old plays -- the fake fears, the faux outrage, the conservatives who yell "Communist" at the news cameras, the pompous right-wing bloggers who once held such sway.
I know all too well how scary and effective these old tactics were in 2004.
Today, they are toothless.
Ha, ha.
Nothing makes me happier than seeing once swaggering players like Powerline, Free Republic and Little Green Footballs forced onto the sidelines, left to limply watch this campaign pass by like a parade in which they play no meaningful part.
They just don't matter anymore.
If obama gets elected? Hey, it’s going to be a McCain-Palin landslide!
Pure projection. Mapes is the one who “doesn’t matter any more.”
Ha! I wish I was that clever. I stole it from somewhere, so you’re welcome to it. :-)
It's called a 'Rat resume enhancer.
Do they really think that an Obama victory would wipe us all from the face of the earth? We’re all in for a bumpy ride.
Criminals celebrating - liars (like Mapes ) will cheer - cheaters ( ACORN ) will be thrilled - Minister Farrakan will feel smug - Ayers and other domestic terrorists will party... Mapes is with her kind.
Gee Mary thanks for the confirmation that Obama plans to end free speech in America if elected.
I guess Mary confirms the notion that only Democrat will be able to exercise the first amendment.
She thinks the rats will control all the media plus the internet with Obambi as president. Too bad it isn’t going to happen Mary.
Great line
Oh my goodness, I think we should all pitch together and send her a bouquet of flowers the day after the election. A nicely arranged sympathy bouquet should be in order :):)
Concur. During the Clinton days, FR was humming with activity. Be careful what you wish for, Dems . . . a FR in a "loyal opposition" stance might just reinvigorate this place.
Hold on to your hats as a revised Fairness Doctrine will likely also include the Internet especially blogs. Fortunately sites like this can be relocated to servers outside the US and unless Obama and company wants to enforce Internet access censorship like China we will still have a voice.
Today's tagline.
Mary...
Number one, you still suck at news-gathering.
Number two...if you’ve seen any horror movies at all, you should know better to say the monster’s dying until you see with your own eyes it’s already dead. And sometimes, not even then.
Just like most Obama supporters, she has no prospect for individual success, so she sees a collectivist win as very personal. It is sad that someone who at one time achieved a prominent, well paid position in the greatest country on earth can only find happiness in it's denigration.
It seems like the ‘usual suspects’ have been silent this year. Heard nothing much from Rosie, Moore, Sue, ect., unlike last time. It’s like they collectively decided it was in the party’s best interest to withhold their celebrity wisdom, for now. It is refreshing to see a little unbridled moon-battery. I expect many more will be unable to contain themselves another week and will show their true colors. Oops! I said color. Guess that’s racist. Dang...
