Our assistant priest (Episcopalian) with our youth group coordinates an Operation ShoeBox every fall.
Members bring in shoeboxes and goodies for our kids to pack in the shoeboxes. The number one and two requests are soap/shampoo and toothbrushes/toothpaste.
Iraq is one place those shoeboxes end up.
Our grandkids helped bring in our donations of toothbrushes/tooth paste, soap/shampoo, pencils, note pads and simple checker games. Iraqi and Afghani children are among those targeted for these shoeboxes.
The kids brought in the bags and I brought in the shoeboxes to give to our asst. Priest. As we got into my truck, I looked into the rearview mirror to make sure their seatbelts were fastened.
I noticed a sad look in our 9 year old grand daughter’s face and asked her what was the problem.
She said, it was so sad that kids didn’t have soap/shampoo, toothbrushes/toothpaste and other simple things she and her friends never had to worry about.
I said that was why we who had things needed to share with those, who didn’t.
We saw her and her brother yesterday, and she wanted to know if the shoeboxes were on their way, and I said that they had left the church.
She smiled and said “Good!”
