PITTSBURGH -- A 20-year-old woman who was robbed at an ATM in Bloomfield was also maimed by her attacker, police said.
Pittsburgh police spokeswoman Diane Richard tells Channel 4 Action News that the victim was robbed at knifepoint on Wednesday night outside of a Citizens Bank near Liberty Avenue and Pearl Street just before 9 p.m.
Richard said the robber took $60 from the woman, then became angry when he saw a McCain bumper sticker on the victim's car. The attacker then punched and kicked the victim, before using the knife to scratch the letter "B" into her face, Richard said.
Richard said the woman refused medical treatment after the assault, which happened outside the view of the bank's surveillance cameras.
The robber is described as a dark-skinned black man, 6 feet 4 inches tall, 200 pounds with a medium build, short black hair and brown eyes. The man was wearing dark colored jeans, a black undershirt and black shoes.

If this really occurred last night, there would be massive swelling, given the intensity of blackness around the eyes. That swelling wouldn’t go away overnight...even with massive amounts of ice applications. Also, there are NO obvious horizontal marks that would indicate a side-to-side head-turning motion, which one might assume would be part of her defensive struggle. The downward strokes show hesitation, and backtracking, especially on the bottom curve...like a “cutter” might make when scrawling a mark into his or her own arm. Finally, a backward “B” indicates a suspicious level of illiteracy — or, more precisely, a mirror-image of a “B.” Trace the outline of a letter B on your own face, whether looking in the mirror or not, and the natural impulse is to write it in a manner that appears backward to an onlooker.
Definitely a fraud? I won’t say. Maybe not. But I find this evidence certainly suspect, and the level of viciousness in the replies in this thread as nauseating as the incident itself.

A young woman, 20, single, carves her own face? Hard to imagine unless she’s very psycho, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
It’s actually a pretty common descriptive term, dark-skinned, as opposed to light-skinned. “Black” is a very relative term.
It’s not the only way. Put someone in a chokehold from behind with your left hand and write a B on their face. It will be backward if you write on the person’s face like you would a piece of paper.
If she was trying to fake this and messed up with a backward B, she probably would have said, Oh crap. I did it backwards. Also, the fact that she used B and not O also makes me think this is legit. Someone this politically minded would have used O, not B.
That sure looks real to me.

I’m no expert on criminal investigations, just a plastic surgeon who treats facial trauma. I just don’t see evidence of trauma in the face other than a neatly carved or branded “B”. I can’t speak about the back of the head.
When you work in an ER, as I have, the first place an out of towner goes after an event like this, ESPECIALLY if alone when attacked, is the Emergency Room. They feel protected from the alien an hostile environment within the “safe” confines of a hospital. The police report, as a matter of fact, tends to be generated from within the hospital, after a call from social services.
Like I said, this just doesn’t add up.
