National Democrats are planning to spend $1 million trying to defeat Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann in Minnesota's 6th District after she questioned Barack Obama's patriotism.
A spokeswoman says the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee will start airing TV ads on Tuesday.
Bachmann is running against Democrat Elwyn Tinklenberg, a former state transportation commissioner.
Tinkleberg's campaign said nearly 13,000 people from around the country donated $640,000 to his campaign after Bachmann said Friday on MSNBC's "Hardball" that Obama "may have anti-American views." She later said her statement about the Democratic presidential nominee was misread.
"We've gotten a lot of people who said, 'I voted Republican all of my life. I can't stand this. Here's my donation. Make sure you beat her'," Tinklenberg said.
Campaign finance filings show Tinklenberg averaged about $63,000 in weekly donations since Aug. 21.
Bachmann campaign spokeswoman Michelle Marston said Obama's relationships with people like Vietnam-era radical Bill Ayers do deserve scrutiny.
In a written statement, Martson told 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS that "Michele Bachmann never called all liberals anti-American. She simply wants to know what does Barack Obama mean when he talks about change? It's perfectly legitimate to ask questions about his relationships."

I question his patriotism too. He has buddies that hate America. He can’t find time at his rallies for the National Anthem, his wife just got proud for the first time, he disses our country to a little girl etc.

I didn’t even know who was running against Michelle until a couple days ago.
He’s been one of those invisible candidates. Not enough money donated to even get an ad on the air.
I think it's a pretty safe seat. Bachmann took 50% last time with two opponents and it's a three way race again. She's our-raised her opponent two to one. If the DNC throws money in, then the RNC may be forced to as well.
Thanks for the numbers. I just called and left a pat-on-the-back message. Said the responses to this issue were about 1 to 1 in favor of her comments. Made a donation plus am volunteering for her. I hope my girls and I can work door-to-door for her this weekend.
She’s a gutsy lady and I’m proud to say I was with her in her house as she began her run for congress the other year. Very Palinesk. We need more honorable men and women like her...to stand up and lead!

I’ve been hearing the Michelle has him but 4 to 11 points depending on what poll and date you’re looking at.
Seems he was one involved in not listening to the 35W bridge inspector’s findings and turning the other way when he was involved in state politics under Ventura.
Bachmann should run an ad about DailyKos folks wishing Nancy Reagan dead, along with other gems, and linking her opponent to them.

Have you seen the latest poll? Bachmann is only up by 3! And this is before the $1 million onslaught. She is DailyKos' #1 target this year, now that they managed to hire a driver to hit and run Jean Schmidt.
Just a taste of what’s to come if 0bama is elected.
