Panel: Palin abused power in trooper case
CNN ^

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) -- Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor in the firing of her former public safety commissioner, but violated no laws, a report for the state Legislature concluded Friday.

Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan's refusal to fire Palin's ex-brother-in-law from the state police force was "likely a contributing factor" to Monegan's July dismissal, but Palin had the authority as governor to sack him, the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower states.

I am not voting for McCain/Palin, so I am a little less partisan than some here and can say what I think calmly and without it being tied to my vote.

THE COP TASED A KID AND MADE THREATS AGAINST A CITIZEN AND WAS OTHERWISE A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. THE GUY PRETTY MUCH ADMITS THAT HIMSELF AND HAS SHOWN SOME LEVEL OF REMORSE.

SO WHO IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD NOT DEMAND HE BE FIRED?

AND WHAT GOVERNOR WOULD NOT FIRE AN EMPLOYEE WHO REFUSED TO CARRY OUT A LAWFUL INSTRUCTION TO GET RID OF SUCH A DANGER?

My God, that is not that hard to freaking understand. I would bet 95% of people would fire that guy in the same situation.

Sorry for the rant.

“and any effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action is a violation of that trust.”

Who benefitted personally or financially from the firing of the Commissioner of Safety? Other than the State of Alaska? Isn’t a Governor supposed to make these calls? There’s a logical disconnect here. The Palin family might have benefitted by the firing of the State Trooper. But what’s at issue is the firing of the Commissioner of Safety. Again, who benefitted personally by this action? The committee is confusing two separate issues here.

If anyone "made an effort to benefit a personal or financial interest through official action", it appears that Wooten did by attempting to go around Palin in requesting funding. But why confuse the hanging with facts?

How can a Governor abuse power but break no laws?

If he/she is a Republican and if the liberal establishment doesn't like them.

When can we charge this commission with abuse of power? When can we charge the Media with abuse of power?

The Trooper things was not the primary reason, but PROBABLY a contributing factor? Sounds like opinion...were they reading her mind?

What were the primary and secondary reasons in the Hillary Travel Gate? Oh yeah..one reason and one reason only, to hire her friends.

Given that the panel concluded (rightly or wrongly) that what she did was "unlawful" -- which is of course what the MSM reports will focus on -- the Friday news dump is precisely where you want it.

The panel concluded nothing from what I understand. They voted to release the report.

I just sat through O'Reilly and H & C and when the two hours were over, I was physically ill. Never again....tomorrow I watch Turner Movie Classics during that time.

Even the "Republican" guests and contributors are so out of touch, it's ridiculous. Blankley and Kasich and Steele (R's, all of them) couldn't bash McCain enough. They said he's not connecting with the people.

I've heard McCain's speeches this past week. I listened to two of them today. He was connecting with the people on all fronts. The crowds were, nodding, cheering and clapping.

Obviously the small world of the Republican TV pundits doesn't extend outside of DC, NYC and LA. If I didn't know who these guys were, they could have been Democrats for all I would know. Do they know or even care what Johnny Mac is saying on the stump?

And when the Dem on the left was knocking McCain and Palin, did you see that consumate ass, Kasich, nodding his head nonstop in agreement like a Hillary bobble head on the dash of a car with square tires.

Even Michael Steele let me down tonight.....never taking issue with all the negative natterings he was hearing from the defeatist nabobs on the panel.

This is all so sickening.

I’ve been thinking about this. I am so ANGRY that I can’t see. These pukes have gone over the line.

There needs to be a reckoning.

Ever wonder if they’re on to something? Obviously McCain isn’t connecting or he’d be leading. Obama is the most flawed candidate ever to run for the Presidencey and McCain can’t put 2 and 2 together to figure out how to win. And now he’s telling his supporters that they dont’ have to fear a Obama administration?

Only in the past few days has he starting hitting hard. Too little too late in my opinion.
