In this presidential race, let's not forget GOP candidates for Congress, particularly the Senate!

Posted on 10/09/2008 2:42:06 PM PDT by Sun

Senator Charles Schumer says he feels confident that the Dems will have a super majority - 60 senators - after this election. Let's not allow this to happen! A super majority can stop any judicial picks by John McCain, and IF (horrors) Barack Obama becomes president, his judicial picks would breeze right through.

As an example, I just heard a tape on the radio where Senator McCain said that Justice Thomas was a good pick, and Senator Obama said he would not have picked him.

Please support the Republicans in the senate race, even if they are not from your state. Maybe you can do some research and pick a candidate(s) who will be in the senate race who is your favorite, and help them out by calling a national talk show (or a local talk show if it's your state), contributing to their campaign, writing a letter to the editor, and/or volunteering for their campaign, etc..

Do what you can to help out, but kindly do something. IMO, the judicial nominations is the most important issue of all, because it affects all of the other issues, like pro-life, the sanctity of marriage, so-called "Fairness" doctrine, terrorism, 2nd Amendment, immigration, eminent domain - everything. Activist judges do what they please, so getting originalist judges on the bench is paramount.

I ask FRiends to tell us which candidate(s) you like, and why, which would be useful for calling a talk show.

Who's running in 2008? Here's a list of the candidates who are running, which includes both Democrat and Republican-held seats: http://archive.redstate.com/stories/elections/2008/senate_2008

And don't forget, when the time comes, the ones running in the near future, like Tom Coburn, who is running in 2010:

The POTUS will probably still be picking judicial nominees after 2010.

I’ve been screaming about this all summer. Where in the hell is talk Radio with the Candidates running? Have they forgotten what is at stake?

“I’ve been screaming about this all summer.”

Thank you for screaming!

And if enough FReepers call a talk show, we can bring this to the forefront on talk radio ourselves.

My anti amnesty/bailout congressman seems to be doing well.

Unfortunately, my senate race in Virginia is Jim Gilmore vs. Mark Warner and Gilmore doesn’t have a chance.

You mean the ones who voted YES for the bailout?

I’ll be voting against Saxby Chambliss. And I will be truly sorry if that gives the Rats a super majority; but I WILL NOT VOTE for a man after he defies the will of his constituents.

Gang of Ten energy bill + Massive gooberment socialist takeover (”bailout”) = loss of my vote.

“My anti amnesty/bailout congressman seems to be doing well.”

And I’m sure he’ll also be voting against the so-called “Fair”ness Doctrine if it comes up.

“You mean the ones who voted YES for the bailout?”

Yes, even those, at least the U.S. Senators. We have four originalists vs. five liberals in SCOTUS, and if the Dems get a supermajority (60 senators), we will never take back our courts, and rule as the Founding Fathers intended.

If you don’t want to vote for a RINO congresscritter, I can understand, but we canNOT allow the Dems to have a supermajority in the U.S. Senate.

Do what you must, but if the Dems get that supermajority in the SENATE, say good bye to any chance of a conservative court.

Not voting for a Republican for congresscritter is not as bad, because it doesn’t affect the Judiciary Committee.

I’m not sure if I’ll vote for my RINO congresscritter, either, but if I lived in a state where a Republican was running for U.S. senator this year, I would hold my nose and vote BECAUSE of the courts.

Nonsense. Anyone who voted for that monstrosity isn't conservative in the least anyway. Throw them out and hope for better.

Surely we can all find a Republican who is running for the U.S. Senate that we DO like, and support them.

Check them out:

http://archive.redstate.com/stories/elections/2008/senate_2008

They don’t have to be in our state in order for us to support them.

Saxby Chambliss in GA was running away with it until he voted on the cow-patty. Now mega-lib-progressive Jim Martin is tied with him. I’d like to stick it to Chambliss, but won’t because I know Martin from working in GA politics and he’s a judicial nightmare. http://chambliss.senate.gov/public/index.cfm

“Help out a Repub.”

Thanx for the info.

It’s difficult to vote for someone when we’re so angry with them, but I put my country before my emotions.

Here’s more of why:

“If Senate Democrats attain a 60-vote majority in the elections, certain parliamentarian devices, such as filibuster and objection, which are generally available to the minority party, could become nearly impossible for Republicans to employ.”
