PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE #2 LIVE THREAD
10/07/08

Posted on 10/07/2008 2:01:24 PM PDT by TornadoAlley3

While the two presidential candidates, Senators John McCain and Barack Obama, prepare for their second debate on Oct. 7 at Belmont University in Nashville, Tom Brokaw gets to sift through questions submitted by you. In addition to queries from a group randomly selected by the Gallup organization, Brokaw will be fielding questions submitted online at mydebates.org, the site created by the Commission on Presidential Debates and Myspace. The focus of the town hall-style debate will be domestic and foreign policy, Brokaw's specialties.

Nice to see that you are so easily impressed by yourself. That and $1.42 will buy you a cup of coffee at McDonalds.

How undecideds get around to deciding is anyone’s guess.

As I posted before, Brian Wilson reported this to the Friends during his week vising battleground state coffee shops. He said whenever he encountered an undecided and really pressed them to decide right then and there, they always said--McCain. He thought it was remarkable.

When is the last time there was a really memorable moment in a debate? Debates are way overrated by the media and political junkies.

I agree. This was hyped like a heavyweight title fight. "McCain better come out swinging" etc. But there is a time and place for that and tonight wasn't it. The mood was too somber (maybe by design). If either candidate "came out swinging" they would have looked like a callous jerk.

So what we ended up with was a very traditional, almost sterile debate. McCain seemed to get in a few GOOD hits toward the end though, when the topics switched to Foreign Policy, the Military and National Defense--his strong suits.

Like Reagan, Romney could have run against Washington... with McCain we have no such luxury.

Romney did astutely point out that BO would jeopardize Israel.

I noticed how much more eloquent Mitt Romney is when talking about the economy than McCain is. McCain didn’t give Romney a shout-out when talking about a prospective Treasury Secretary — instead McCain mention Democrat Warren Buffett and Meg Whitman, who nobody knows much about.

I doubt if this debate changes many minds— what’s important now is the job situation and the stock market . . which McCain has little control over.

I saw that same newscast too...but the number then was about 4000. Also saw pics of the early birds and wondered where most of them got their driver licenses. Hmmmmm......maybe from the back of the same van that registered them to vote.

You signed on in 2008 and if you think that I believe you support McCain, your comments have said otherwise during this entire debate thread.

Maybe we should all declare who we supported during the primaries and I bet if everyone was honest, it would come as a surprise to some who the negative people and whiners are with the sky is falling McCain is going to lose mantra.

McCain answered the questions — Obama didn’t! The last question McCain hit it out of the park but still whine, whine, whine.

McCain needs to say that our liberation of Iraq is a good thing and list the reasons. Otherwise Obama owns that subject.

The debate was blah, we learned nothing new.

You actually expected to learn something new?

The only thing I hoped to learn is McCain pummeled a Communist into the ground.

That didn't happen. But, the Cubs aren't going to the World Series either. What else is new?

John McCain is the real deal. He loves his country and he is willing and ABLE to take us in the right direction for the next 4 years.

Obama, is a lost soul who is lying in order to gain power. You can tell when Obama is lying. It's written all over his face, especially his eyes.

Right, McCain wins on the economy and suddenly health care becomes the most important issue to voters.

Don't you mean Michelle's body?

People, this insipid debate is a GOOD THING.

It will increase the excitement for Sarah's Rallies, which is where the real political meat is and has been coming from, anyway.

Nobody is going to tune in for Biden's speeches from here on out.

I normally agree with Krauthammer but I just can’t see where he is coming from on this one!McCanes biggest asset is foreign policy. Good grief, Bambi was totally lost in that area.
