PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE #2 LIVE THREAD
10/07/08

Posted on 10/07/2008 2:01:24 PM PDT by TornadoAlley3

While the two presidential candidates, Senators John McCain and Barack Obama, prepare for their second debate on Oct. 7 at Belmont University in Nashville, Tom Brokaw gets to sift through questions submitted by you. In addition to queries from a group randomly selected by the Gallup organization, Brokaw will be fielding questions submitted online at mydebates.org, the site created by the Commission on Presidential Debates and Myspace. The focus of the town hall-style debate will be domestic and foreign policy, Brokaw's specialties.

I bet that is the dem talking point post debate. If you hear Matthews and friends say the same thing, you know the guy is not legit.

Nope. They were playing video games and then when the debate was over, they just said whatever they wanted to say about this favorite candidate.

I think Obama won only because he didn’t have a breakdown and McCain’s position in the polls mandated that he swat one out of the park.

I’m loving Palin’s recent attention to Ayers and issues that show Obama is “not one of us”. But that would be so much more effective if it was stated by McCain. When the 60’s were raging and long haired hippy freaks were turning this country into a cess pool, McCain was heroically struggling through torture for the sake of this nation. I want him to state what was true then and is true today- either you are with this nation or against it, no middle ground!!!!!

Yes, Pickens was on.

But then George McGovern came on, and, for the first time in my life, I actually agree with him.

He was speaking on behalf of workers’ rights to a private ballot when deciding whether or not to be represented by a union.

So a liberal icon was actually speaking against the interests of the big labor unions.

Wonders never cease.

Who in Arlington is undecided? That is a liberal bastion in Virginia.

The liberalism here in VA., are the housewives with nothing better to do
then watch Oprah, and the view. How do I know? I work in their homes.

Rallies are the place to get the red meat, not debates. They’ve sanitized the debates.

In spite of what most think, Obama is not a doer, he wants to be seen, drop names, climb on others back until he can’t use them, get paid. Like his father, he gets bored easily. It’s the power trip to the top, not the work.

He doesn’t put himself out, even for those closest to him. He’s a malignant narcissist.

Fred Barnes was so right. There was time to talk about guns, immigration, abortion, etc. That would have made it much more interesting. This sounded like a rehash of the first debate. Sadly McCain did nothing to change the game I think. If those polls are right then he will remain behind.

McCain could not have said that. You obviously don’t understand debates and what can be said and not said. McCain had the right ending and he should NEVER say anything about Obama’s birth certificate. You want him to lose the election and get crucified then follow your naive advice.

Johnny NAILED the last question. His final statement was very strong. Obama’s sauce about his mom being on foodstamps while she was in grad school was embarrassing.

The Luntz groups are always a farce. We’re really supposed to believe these idiots were all undecided?

He had a half dozen 'undecided' blacks in the group. Hell there aren't 6 undecided blacks in the whole damned state!

I’m guessing that the damage is being done through other means. Polling probably is tightening.

DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING DING!

He's trying to goad them into leading with their chin again.

He certainly defused anyone waiting with bated breath tuning in to catch him being a bitter old vengeful racist.

So now that he has credibility and gravitas, he can go on the attack again.

Obambi was only prepared (at most) for one or two of McCain's speeches--the health care insurance comes to mind; and McCain leveled him with the follow-up by quoting the numbers back, 95% of you will do even better under my plan.

Cheers!

I generally liked the answers from McCain. On the whole, I think he showed his relative maturity on the issues relative to Obama. Obama’s attempt to attack that perception directly, “I’m green behind the ears...,” at one point seemed weak and desperate to me given that he couldn’t back up his opposition to that perception.
