A few minutes ago I was reading an article about the Taliban in Pakistan and this so-called region of Waziristan. In an effort to geographically orient myself, I decided to type Waziristan into my beloved Google Maps. Unfortunately, Waziristan could not be (properly) located, and I received this response.
Waziristan, Pakhistan [sic] Address:
Removal requested (No such place)
Luckily, one can look up Waziristan elsewhere and find out where the place really is. Wikipedia, for example.
I'm not a conspiracy nut or anything like that, but I'd like to throw this question out to everybody reading this post. Who do you think requested that Google remove Waziristan from Google Maps and why?
It was the Jooz....(/close Moozie conspiracy mode)
works for me with an F note:
The Waziristan region of Pakistan has seen sporadic fighting between pro-Taliban tribesmen and government troops.
Might have something to do with the Taliban and AQ threatening airstrikes on US bases in Afghanistan the other day. Maybe google is actually trying to help America for once....or maybe they got a court order to cease until further notice.
I never Google.
added a couple additional keywords
FATA,NWFP
Good News is 95% of Liberally taught school children correctly identified its location.
Google rewrites news remember?
So, Google rewrites history.
Now, geography.
Jihadis can Google as well, and our G-2 discovered they were using online sources operationally in combat zones. The US would prefer they not be able to do that.
I tried Google Earth and it came up with Waziristan, Pakistan located in central Canda just west of the Hudson bay.
I am beginning to lose faith in Google and their intentions
You beat me to it....
Maybe you need to spell Pakistan correctly.
Type in Pakistan and then zoom in..
Yep...spelling Pakistan with an “h” isn’t going to help your search.
oh I see
first I searched for pakistan
then I searched for waziristan, pakistan and that works
hmm... I’m not a conspiracy person either, but I’ve noticed some weird things in Google-land lately. Earlier last week, I was looking for a video of Barney Frank and Maxine Waters from 2004 promoting the security and soundness of Fannie/Freddie. When I went back to find it - it was gone - and all copies of it. On Friday, I was “bullied” by a YouTube video poster when I wrote in his comments that his hate-speech against Gov. Palin was wrong. He commented back and called me the same stuff. I reported him. My report of abuse was denied. So I started looking around... Something’s up here in this Google/YouTube land. I noticed the CEO Eric Schmidt was at the DNC and noticeably absent form the RNC. Found this video - it’s a little out there, but who knows..
