The bill would have used US tax payers money to bail out not only US banks but foreign banks as well.

Id rather lose my 401K than my country.
Unfortunately, there's more than a good chance of just that happening.....scary scenario, pass or fail.

Republicans are screaming for “regular order” “regular order”.
The dems are trying to twist arms and get people to change votes!

CNN still has the “they’ll probably vote for it” message up, but the FReepers on another thread who were watching it live said over 60 Dems voted against it, and that was before the voting ended.

Current vote: 207 yes, 226 no. Almost as many Dems voted against it as Repubs, so they can’t lay the whole blame at the feet of the GOP.
To: icwhatudo
Looks like it ain’t over yet. They’re leaving the voting open and the arm twisting convenes. They already got 4 nays to switch to yeas. It’s not 207 - 226.

"Seems to be stabilizing at -525 (1:50est)" And if I understand this correctly that is with Short selling disabled for a goodly amount of stocks.
That is scary!

Pelosi couldn’t get her OWN people on board for this bill.

Don't celebrate too fast...they are doing a reverse-DeLay, twisting arms, and changing votes. This may yet pass. CNBC says if they get one GOP vote they'll get one RAT vote with it. So they only need 5-6 GOP votes to switch.
To: savedbygrace
Those 66 GOP votes for passage better think twice if Dems start changing — so far only one.

Kudos to the Republicans for doing the right thing for once.
My biggest worry right now is how this thing is going to affect the Presidential race this close to election day.

No matter how this turns out down the road, this is a victory for The People.

0f the 60 dems, I am sure a lot were members of the CBC (congressional black caucus) who were pissed that the Cram Down provision (judges changing terms of mortgages without any business recourse), and money for ACORN was removed in negotiations.

Great buying opportunity. As soon as the market bottoms, Im going to take a few K from money market and switch it to an index fund. Please let us know when the market has reached a bottom. Your wisdom could enrich everyone here.
