Cadbury recall all chocolate made in China over fears it may contain contaminated milk

British chocolate giant Cadbury today ordered a recall of its Chinese-made products after revealing tests have ‘cast doubt’ on its safety.

It is feared the sweets could contain melamine-laced milk, which has been blamed for killing four children in China and making around 50,000 ill.

The 11 recalled confectionery items - made at Cadbury's factory in Beijing - are distributed in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Australia.

Doubts: 11 products distributed in Taiwan, Hong Kong and Australia were recalled

....Authorities say suppliers might have added melamine, which is rich in nitrogen, to watered-down milk to deceive quality tests for protein. Chinese-made M&Ms, Snickers bars and Oreo biscuits have also been recalled by manufacturers.

I don't know about you, but I'm all for banning the import of ANY food item into this country that is made in China, whether intended for humans or animals.

I am with you. It is very difficult to decipher where our food is coming from. Everything is either "manufactured for" or "imported by" If you look quickly it appears to be American Made. If you look closely, you will find almost nothing is made in USA.

I am afraid to buy pans or bowls or anything cooking related also. I can just imagine the chemicals they put in the metal in China. This holds true for candles, decorations, curtains, etc.

Maybe we need to pickedt Chinese embassy/consulates, and organize world-wide ban on Chinese food products. Sure it could drive up the local price of some food. However, it is a small price to pay, considering the potential danger.

I don’t buy cookware made in China either. I’m pretty well set, having been married 17 years, but when I buy replacements I look for US-made older products at the thrift store.

Does the West make anything anymore? We’ve even outsourced candy-making to the commies to save a few pennies.

I was looking online last night for a heavy duty pressure cooker and came across these folks - https://store.wafco.com/ezmerchant/home.nsf

Their stuff appears well-made and *most* of it is made in the USA.

Of course they charge retail at their online store but there are other places that sell it.

I’ll have to check the local thrifts though. That sounds like an excellent idea.

If Hershey's chocolate bars have Melamine in them, my stomach will just have to get used to it.

Hey, thanks! While not a country boy by any stretch, my grandmother was from West Virginia and I grew up with cast iron skillets. Now I use my own daily!

But I’m always on the lookout for other stuff so thanks for the link!

That chicken roaster has my name on it :-)

IIRC, Hershey’s closed their Pennsylvania Plant and opened on in Mexico.
