The cable news networks are standing by for a press conference by House Republicans on the bailout bill. It should start some time after 6:30 p.m. EDT.
The House Republicans are still meeting behind closed doors. The meeting has been going on for almost two hours.
They’re OUR toxic securities jimbo. China bought them from us.
I’m not on the inside, but don’t we want investors knowing they can count on US securities?
It means the rich and the poor get government benefits and the middle class get the bill. See that’s fair, every body gets something.
Actually, I have no desire to be punished, which is why I say NO BAILOUT!
ACORN IS STILL IN THERE (Page 22 - lines 1 through 8) plus the following: “35 percent shall be deposited into the Capital Magnet Func established under section 1339 of that Act (12 U.S.C. 4569). What is THIS about, anyone care to guess?

I hope all will take time to examine this thread, too, about the 0ne’s comments on a draft.

If you see the bill fail and Obama wins, you’re going to get both.
You’ll get this bill, with the ACORN nonsense and all of the rest and far more under Obama and a Democratic Congress.
Actually, you’ll get far worse than this bill. This isn’t “socialism”, unless you’ve perverted the word to consider any government-based economic activity to be “socialist” (which would have surprised the Founders, let me assure you - after all, the first act of the first Secretary of the Treasury was to assume the debts of the several states, refinance them, and pay them off through taxation).
How do you propose to do that by getting Obama and a Democratic Congress elected?
If The USA is still the USA in 2012 (and not the United Socialist States of Amerika), there is hope on the horizon.
LOL good catch. That one went over my head this morning. I was more worried about why Grahams eye was going shut. I thought maybe the poor man was going to have a stroke on TV.
From what I’ve understood, if a bank fails they do have the right to call in any and all debt even if you are paying on time?
Please let them remember their oath to uphold the Constitution as they serve their constituents...the people of the United States of America.
Please grant them courage .....oh Lord please.
You have no way of knowing that not signing this means Obama gets elected. He could get elected whether it’s signed or not, so knock off the dire predictions, Kreskin.
The bailout is designed to work until Nov. 5th, and then the whole thing collapses shotly after. It still does not solve US liquidity problems. The money goes off shore, and its a process of diminishing returns on liquidity.
The only folks getting bailed on this are the stockholders of the banks who are in trouble, and those are mostly the executive directors of those banks, most of them Dem supporters with huge sub primne portfolios they took on for their loyal Dem politicians who are looking after them now as payback.
This bill is a socialist economic Putsch.
SHAME!
GRAFT AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT!
AND THAT CHICKEN WILL COME HOME TO ROOST, BAIL OUT OR NOT.
Let it roost now.
Right.
It’s a good sign. If they were going to just come out and say yes, they would have done it already.
After seeing Pelosi say it’s a ‘buy-in’, it is a bad deal, never take investment advice from her or any other Democrat that hates Wall Street
I’m with you. This has to be passed now and it’s as good as it’s going to get. Whether or not one Republican votes for it is irrelevant. This bill will pass the House and Senate and Bush will sign it.
Then the GOP will be blamed for obstruction and vicariously McCain.
Give the GOP credit for having cajones. They did not roll over.
We can’t ride this issue all the way to the election or McCain will lose by a landslide. We have to get beyond this and get to other issues - those issues which do not benefit Obama and Democrats.
In the long run, the GOP will get credit for doing the right thing.
Besides, Pelosi said Waxman is going to start oversight hearings next week and you know he will overturn every stone to investigate how we got to this point - yeah. Those hearings should provide comic relief to an otherwise very tense period.
