You can call me an idiot (really mature on your part), but Debate 101: you don't look down or look away from your opponent when your opponent keeps looking at you - the audience will get the impression you are intimidated.

The audience in this case is not you or I by the way, - it's the undecideds - you and I are voting for McCain no matter what he does in this debate, but the swing voters/undecideds are going to see what looks like an intimidated McCain and they are also hearing the zingers that Obama's writers spent weeks on, and if you don't think it won't stick in their minds, you'll be surprised in November.
