A quick little vanity because we have a need to know. In Missouri, the lack of yard signs compared to Bush-Kerry race in simply amazing. We see them here and there but I would say here it is at least 80% less than previous races. Bumper stickers are probably 70% less than before. Is it fear of vandalism, apathy? I apologize in advance for this vanity but it would be an asset to hear what it is like in other states right now. Some of my neighbors who usually are big Dim supporters and always have signs... do not have signs this time around. If a thread similar to this has gone around I missed it so thanks for your input. So am I nuts or what?
The past few days, in Vermont and the Lake Placid/Saranac Lake region of upper New York state, I saw hundreds of political signs for local elections and amazingly none for Obama and a handful for McCain. Very unusual.
You ain’t nuts. Well, maybe you are nuts, but not b/c of your observation.
Here in CA there are far fewer signs/stickers. I’m near a UC campus & normally I’d see cars plastered with them.
And on my street? One Obama (which makes me grit my teeth every time I see it) & 2 McCain. Course one’s mine, but the other, I had nothing to do with!
NO, not Austin, Fort Worth.
Austin is probably awash in Bambi paraphenalia.
can’t afford any...the tax man cometh...
As a former Democrat, I can speak to the issue of apathy. Demonrats most members here know and I had come to know are very negative. I grew to dislike the negativity then I grew to loathe it, then I found a more positive party. But, when I was still trying to figure things out politically, I was apathetic to my party.
As mentioned the number of yard (roadside) signs is way down here in rural central New Mexico.
What is interesting I see more Kerry bumper stickers than I do Obama bumper stickers. And yes even a couple of cars with both Kerry and Gore stickers (but no Obama sticker on either).
We have many in Michigan. Do you suppose they sent them to the swing states first and will get them to the other states after that. If so, it would be pretty smart.
But I think SO CA will deliver CA for McCain because of Prop 8, 4 and because of Sarah Palin
McCain was selling them for $7.00 each which included free shipping. (check his website)
It took about 3 weeks to get mine. But I ordered mine the day after Sarah Palin was announced as his VP pick. I believe I was order 120 something out of 400+ for that day.
and as far as local races goes, the LAST thing i want, is some azzhole cop/DA/judge to see a sign in my yard that i might someday have less than favorable contact with and then have them remember that sign let alone that sign let alone be the reason for the encounter.
I was behind a Mercedes today that had a Hillary! bumper sticker on the bumper and a McCain/Palin sticker in the window!
Boy that says protest vote lols
The McCain/Palin signs just came out this week in Michigan. I have only seen one Obama/Biden sign of the two together. That was at the neighboring county's dim headquarters. I have seen a lot more McCain/Palin signs, about the same as I've seen McCain alone signs which have been out a lot longer.
In my neighborhood, from what I’ve seen, it is 10 McCain to 2 Obama. I ordered my sign/bumber stickers the Friday she was announced. I was order 400 or so of 550..... I got mine 3 weeks later and got the sign and bumper stickers on the cars...
My DH can’t have a bumber sticker on his car - he works at UPS. Lots of teamsters....
You know, now that you mention it - no, I haven’t noticed a single yard sign in my travels in New Jersey, and you’re right, they were much more prevalent during the last election. Strange.
I always find it interesting, though, that any Obama campaign materials I do see fail to mention his running mate, Joe Biden.
wow
I was in the McCain headquarters today & picked up a dozen for free. And 3 more yards signs in case I can talk some of my worker bee collegues to stop fence sitting.
The McCain volunteer was so excited that she actually had a live body to talk to, I spent my lunch 1/2 hr there.
Very few signs in Springfield. I live in a rural area outside town...my neighbor and I have McCain-Palin signs.
The Pubbie headquarters here did not get McCain-Palin signs until last week. No bumper stickers, either.
I’ve actually seen more Obama stickers, but still not many. In ‘04, it was easy to get signs months ahead of time and they were everywhere.
You must be from Santa Fe NM....bawhahah
Several Obama yard signs here in suburban KC (Kansas side). There were more on my street but some disappeared. I did see a few more McCain signs today. I’ve only seen a few McCain bumper stickers but tons for Obama.
That’s Springfield in Missouri, like you.
