Gannett owned website. Headline and link only. Will look for another postable source. The article says the fire chief estimates the crowd today at Palin's rally at 70,000.

In any event, rally sizes are indicative of absolutely NOTHING in terms of who is going to win.
People may not believe it, but Walter Mondale was drawing huuuuuuge rallies in the dying weeks of a campaign where he’d lose in a historic sized landslide. In the final weekend, he had a crowd of nearly 100,000 in NYC.

I remember that -- also, I read that Eugene McCarthy in 68 also had huge crowds and then fizzled.
Totally agree with your point!

Interesting.
These photos were taken at the "Stand in the Gap" rally in 1998.
It is the only time the Washington Mall was ever filled up.
It certainly didn't happen during the "Million Man March" that Barack Hussein Obama attended.

His speech yesterday on the markes, etc. was a joke - no plan, no content, just knocking McCain - and he stumbled constantly as he tried to read his script That's not going to bode well for The Zero during the debates--remember, no TelePrompter nearby! I've seen Senator Obama speak without one and it is quite unpleasant to listen to.

According to DRUDGE it was the Fire Chief that put the number at 60,000
"The fire chief estimated the crowd at 60,000."

I don’t think there will be a need for chad counting this November in FL.

The population of The Villages is approx. 70,000...Prior to the Palin event, turnout was predicted to be approx. 18,000 if all ticket holders were to attend.

Been choking my way thru the Emmys ... worst, dippiest, stupidest I've ever seen. Laura Linney (whom I really admire professionally), who was so awesome as John Adams' wife in John Adams, had to ruin the moment by signing off with: (paraphrasing) "thank you, John Adams, and all the community organizers that made this country great.." ACCCKKKKK And double-ACCCKKKK :)
I knew Linney was a looney, but that was a total cheap shot. Whatever happened to accepting your award, saying "thank you" and getting the hell off the stage?

Hi Friend, I know what you mean about the crowd! My sweetie and I were there at 12:00 and ate our lunch in the car while crawling into the parking area. Finally got parked at about 1:00! We walked about 20 minutes from our car to the square where the line was already many blocks long to get into the fenced off area around the stage. We managed to get through security and into the fenced off area by about 2:00 and then stood in any tiny pieces of shade we could find which was difficult! We left the fenced area around 3:00 as we had to find a place to sit down and get out of the sun. I was doing OK but my hubby was really beginning to get close to heat exhaustion. We joined the huge crowd outside the secure area and realized there was no shade to be had there either! We walked away from the square and found an ally between some shops to sit down for a while and then found out that Sarah was not going to arrive until 4:30 or 5:00. That did it for my sweetie and he just wasn't feeling well enough to stay. We decided to leave as we were sure we would face a couple hours of traffic just to get out of the Villages before our two hour drive home. Sorry to say we didn't get to see or hear Sarah but we sure can attest to the magnificent crowd of supporters!

Maybe Agent Frowny needed to go to the dentist or something and sent the guy behind the giant lipstick in his place. He’s really frowny and built like a wall!

So sorry you two weren’t able to stay after driving all that way. The number of people I encountered who were on their way out as I was on my way in, was quite large. They all had the same explanation; they had stood in line for hours only to realize that there was no way they were going to get anywhere near being allowed inside that secure area near the stage.
