Exclusive: New Doubts Over Palin's Troopergate Claims

Internal Government Document Contradicts Sarah Palin, Campaign

By JUSTIN ROOD

September 19, 2008—

An internal government document obtained by ABC News appears to contradict Sarah Palin's most recent explanation for why she fired her public safety chief, the move which prompted the now-contested state probe into "Troopergate."

Fighting back against allegations she may have fired her then-Public Safety Commissioner, Walt Monegan, for refusing to go along with a personal vendetta, Palin on Monday argued in a legal filing that she fired Monegan because he had a "rogue mentality" and was bucking her administration's directives.

"The last straw," her lawyer argued, came when he planned a trip to Washington, D.C., to seek federal funds for an aggressive anti-sexual-violence program. The project, expected to cost from $10 million to $20 million a year for five years, would have been the first of its kind in Alaska, which leads the nation in reported forcible rape.

Ah, the sweet smell of drive-by media desperation.

Now every other news outlet will pick this up and repeat it over and over, just as they did with Chuck Hagel’s remarks critical of Palin.. whereas very few outlets ran anything about Bill Clinton’s praise of Palin.

I just emailed them, but I know it was a waste of time. They know what they’re doing, and they don’t care who else knows it. They’re in it to get ‘rats in the White House and Congress. And the poster upthread who said they want the “Fairness” Doctrine enacted so they can take out Rush and other conservative media outlets, had it right.

So the guy that threatened to kill his wife (and already had broken her arm--but it was just tickling) is claiming the real reason he was fired was because he did not fire a trooper that threatened to kill Palins father (after tasering Palins nephew).

I hadn't seen that before. Do you have some more detail?

The media doesn’t seem to realize it but by continuing to push these petty stories trying to trash Palin, all they are doing are immunizing her from any attack. I remember when McCain first chose Palin and the next day some of those “scandals” came out, I was like “wow, this doesn’t look good for Palin”. Now I see these stories and the first thing I think is “oh boy, another crap story about Palin”. All these stories expose is the media hatred/fear of Palin.

A week ago, I’d have agreed.

Right now, with recent changes in polls and the financial news, I’m scared sh*tless that we aren’t going to win this Presidential election.

McCain and Palin have GOT to fight back publicly on this smear campaign. The MSM has been pizzed at Sarah ever since her convention speech when she said she wasn’t going to Washington to get the media’s good opinion. The MSM hates Republicans anyway, but that really got their backs up. They think they are the most important entity in the nation, and she dismissed them. They can’t take that, of all things. They’re having a hissy fit because of it, in addition to the usual being in the tank for the ‘rat.

I’ve never seen so much wasted ink and bandwidth about some jerk state trooper.

Is this really the best they can do to smear Palin? Sheesh.

“This may seem insignificant. So did the rape kit thing. So did the aerial wolf hunting thing. Both have been mentioned extensively on the air, and done damage with women voters.”

Don’t think these issues have really hurt Palin, most of the women who say they don’t support Palin just go on about abortion “rights”. If this was really why this guy was gotten rid of, they would have made media hay out of it right away, this reeks of them having to take time to think up a better lie as the first one was sinking.

Yes, but we read outlets like FR and get the whole story. All most people know is what they hear on the nightly news, and the networks know it.

I agree. Standard government forms require the user fill out the middle portion to ensure proper credit. If this is how he filled out paperwork and this was his tendency, then maybe this was another reason to can him. If the agency was audited and it stated this trip cost $0.00, there is no way to properly match the books.

“It looks like the Chief of Staff was rubber stamping practically blank request forms.”

Yeah, I like the way the document is dated as “6-19-08” at the top of the form (presumably the date the request form was filled in), but date next to the approval signature is one day earlier “6-18-08”.

Plus their is no indication on the form for the specific purpose of the trip except to meet with Murkowski.

Hate to say it, but the MSM’s plan of death by a thousand cuts is working, just like it did against Bush.

The MSM is going to drag Palin down while ignoring wrongdoing by Obama and they will continue to give him a free pass.

The MSM is intent on getting Obama elected, and perception = reality.

I agree, but the stakes are very, very high. The MSM and their cronies in the demonrat party have a lot to hide with more loss of power at stake. While the current banking collapse to some extent has both parties to thank/blame, the majority is due to the Clinton administration and the dims in congress. They MUST NOT let the public understand where the blame lies. Now more than ever, we need reformers to come in, shine the light on the dirt and clean house.

I want to see ABC and the other Democrat lapdogs in the msm devote this kind of time to Barry’s little trip to Iraq to sabotage the President’s troop withdrawal plan, thus breaking the law as set forth in the Logan Act.
Now that’s something to investigate.

I agree partially. This may also be how the office does the initial request for travel, and will be filled out later when they complete the trip. There are no trips which cost $0.00. May be an issue if they get audited as well, as a trip to DC is well in excess of $0.00. If this is indicative of how he completes his paperwork, then I could see how he got canned.
