Vanity: McCain "Broke" When a POW
Me | 9/17/08

Posted on 09/18/2008 12:35:02 PM PDT by llevrok

Please help me track something down I find despicable.

Today I heard Rush say that an Obama supporter is calling John McCain "unfit" to lead because he "broke" when a POW. By "broke", that is - he gave confidential information to his captors or admitted his "guilt" as a war terrorist.

I've read many books on the POW's in captivity both during Vietnam, Korea and WW2. Most - if not all - "break" under torture at some point usually later than sooner. And all who come home carry this huge feeling of guilt for letting their fellow POW's, service, country and family down.

I would defy any liberal who is spreading this as a cause of McCain being too weak to lead spend 1 month - or 1 day - under such conditions and not concede to what their captors want them to say or do.

THis is an attrocious charge and needs to be nipped in the bud. Now.

Right. Obama can follow the example set by his mentor John Fraud Kerry, who wasn’t captured, tortured, or even really wounded, yet voluntarily turned into a conduit for Soviet “antiwar” propaganda.

Dueling autobiography’s anyone?

McCain: Broke after 4 years of torture.

Obama: Survived 4 years of self-administerd narcotic abuse.

Any others?

Big Mac's time as a POW proves he is a man of strong character and intestinal fortitude. A true blue patriot who loves his country more than he desires personal gain.

Keep shooting blanks oBama.

I think we are forgetting that McCain was singled out for especially rough treatment after he refused early release. He became the pet victim of his captors who were incensed by his refusal to give them a propaganda coup by accepting early release and then his absolute steadfastness in the face of DAILY torture.

Other captives who had been there long before McCain arrived have said repeatedly that they had never seen anyone treated as badly as John McCain, to the point that several times when he was dumped back in his cell after a torture session they were convinced he would not live through the night.

I heard the bozo on Rush. He starts out by lying and it goes downhill from there. He wants to open the call by making it sound like something ‘bothers’ him. The whole conversation is a ruse and for my money this man can have his own special little place in hell, a place where ‘giving in’ brings no relief whatsoever.

All they have to do is just wake up in the morning ....it’s that simple. To them just breathing is a no brainer ....these are the same people who want to take us back to the 1850’s ...

You know, when I read this, the first thing I thought of “breaking” was McCain’s arm.

From what I understand, when they got mad at him over not leaving, they rebroke his arm.

What I heard and read was that when asked for the names of fellow pilots, etc., McCain gave them the names of the Green Bay Packers linemen. No joke.

I’m with you. I HATE them. I had been lukewarm about McCain (until Palin and the convention), because of policy disagreements, but I never dreamed that the ‘rats would sink so low as to use his infirmities from his torture as a POW against him. I can’t even begin to say how I hate them. They don’t deserve to live in the same country with him, much less have the arrogance to pit themselves against him as contender for Commander-In-Chief. I wish I had a way to let them all know how deeply I hate them, and the contempt I have for their weak spineless lying scum selves.

Good plan, we could use the space to move all the liberals traitors living in the US to there, starting with Hanoi Jane.

You make an excellent point-the men who would know-his fellow POWs-have expressed nothing but admiration for him (and he for them). They need to get together and make an ad to refute the freaking lies being circulated by the traitor left. Let them refute the men who were there.

Please help me track something down I find despicable.

Since this is a troll technique, I'll pass until after the elections.

This type of article post is even-odds a troll.

"Isn't it terrible?" doesn't legitimize it for me.

I'll let the gullible Freepers waste their time. Or your partners if they are dumb enough to reveal themselves.

Yeah, I heard it today, some bozo named "Jason" called in to whine about how McCain is "unfit to be President" because he broke under torture while a POW.

Just force Jason to get a job and forego living with his mother and welfare and he'll break inside a month...

Yeah, that was true, but eventually he gave it up. Who wouldn’t after being beaten for years.

Didn’t Fred Thompson say at the convention that when asked the other pilot’s name McCain gave the name of the qtrback for the Detroit lions (or some NFL team)! It was very funny-only stupid metro type O supporters would come up with that. I heard the guy and he sounded whack-well duh whack - Obama supporter same thing!

Same here, that’s the part of the speech that made me want to vote for the man himself, instead of just against Obama, or even because he picked Sarah Palin for VP.

I caught part of that, hope Rush hung up on him.

He did, AND he called the guy an idiot in the third hour of the show!

McCain acknowledged this in his acceptance speech. And yes, they almost all broke. Of course, after months in captivity, they knew nothing of current military importance.

This is despicable. Bring it on, slimeballs, put the focus on McCain's military record and POW history. Fine by me.

haven't read through the thread, but during his covention speech, I recall hearing Senator McCain said he was broken while in captivity.

"But after I turned down their offer, they worked me over harder than they ever had before, for a long time, and they broke me. When they brought me back to my cell, I was hurt and ashamed, and I didn't know how I could face my fellow prisoners. The good man in the cell next door to me, my friend, Bob Craner, saved me. Through taps on a wall, he told me I had fought as hard as I could. No man can always stand alone. And then he told me to get back up and fight again for my country and for the men I had the honor to servewith, because every day they fought for me."
