Sarah Palin’s Yahoo account hijacked, e-mails posted online

Mod note: Do no post any screenshots of Governor Palin's Yahoo account on Free Republic.
Thank you.

On the heels of media reports that Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin was using a private Yahoo e-mail account (gov.palin@yahoo.com) to conduct Alaska state business, hackers have broken into the account and posted evidence of the hijack on Wikileaks.

An activist group calling itself ‘anonymous’ claimed responsibility for the compromise and released screenshots, photographs and the e-mail addresses of several people close to Palin, including her husband Todd and assistant Ivy Frye.

If a lady that bright wanted to send secrets, she would hardly choose “gov.palin”—unless she didn’t care who read it!

For all we know, she did zap a lot of more “delicate” stuff.

My take: I can’t imagine Gov. Sarah Palin using a Yahoo account for actual government business. Discussing politics, maybe. But that’s not business. Not that somebody wouldn’t try to spin it in that direction, but I don’t think it would amount to squat even if they could. The bottom line is that, if this is real, then some dirtball has hacked a very well-liked lady’s personal email account.

I firmly agree with that concept. However, what happened here is that the burglars disconnected the alarm system, picked the lock and then stole your stuff.

Not really. What happened here is that Governor Palin used an email service that has a long history of security problems. And using ANY third party email system leaves you open to having the people that run the place.

Not wise.

Oh, of course it's better to lock up your keys, and we always do at our house.

But my daddy is a stubborn old man.

And he's always got a firearm within arm's reach. Habits established in WWII, I guess.

I can't tell you how splendid it made us kids feel when daddy bagged the burglar (he was breaking into my bedroom window at the time). Instead of feeling helpless and frightened (the police took 45 minutes to get there) we were PROUD that our father was a man who took seriously the job of defending his family.

And it was a win-win, because the burglar got away with two charges of fairly heavy bird shot in his backside (I think it was #6, know it was 16 ga - dad's old Parker side by side). And I'm sure he told everyone there was a crazy man up the hill with a loaded shotgun at his side (it couldn't have been 60 seconds from the time I screamed until the first loud bang).

Can somebody simply tell me... is this legal to break into someone’s email account?

I'd say she underestimated the sleaze she would face, which is far different from being unwise. Gentlemen don't behave that way, and in Alaska she's used to dealing with gentlemen. Governor Palin will learn quickly, which is what distinguishes her from the Democrats who keep trying the same foolish ideas without blaming their failure on the ideas themselves.

My analogy stands. I have never in my life met a person who could do what these people claim to have done. I have also never in my life met a person who could effectively disable an alarm system and pick a lock.

This took special skills. It is also a break-in through locked doors. Your arguments are simply that she should have used a better lock and alarm company. The good news is that from what I am seeing, nothing of real value was “stolen”.

As with so many of the attacks against her, this really plays into her personna as “just like the rest of us”. We can relate to what happened to her.

Here is what Wikileaks says:

Wikileaks may release additional emails should they prove be of political substance.

What you say makes sense, but they might have more that are innocuous.

people of good are drawn to her and those of evil are repulsed

This is also addressed:
2 Cor 2:14-17

paraphrase - the "scent of Christ" attracts the good and repulses the wicked.

Tsk, tsk. Hunting goblins with a bird gun.

Unfortunately, neither Federal, Remington or Winchester make "goblin shot."

Until they do, my Mossberg 500 is loaded with #1 buckshot. And a couple of slugs in the stock sleeve for backup.

“Maybe next they can go through Palin’s bedroom and bathroom to see if she wears fuzzy slippers and if Todd leaves the toilet seat up.”

That would certainly disqualify HIM in my house, lol.

It’s not ‘your’ account.

It’s Yahoo’s. So you would be breaking into Yahoo’s account without authorization.

Just like ‘ruschpa’ isn’t your account or mine as well, but Jim’s.

Disgusting! Can’t wait until the Secret Service tracks down the hackers and charges them with felonies.

Her contact list looks very clean. Can you imagine what Obama’s would look like?

For a lot of convenient communication, privacy is not that big of a deal, and Yahoo or Google mail can be a fine back up. FR uses Yahoo as a back up.
