>>>I am betting she will be vague on her views on areas she actually disagrees with mccain strongly, at worst.

How do we know it isn’t actually the conservatives she disagrees with?

>>>That is a slap in the face of the millions of Hispanics who came to this country legally.

It is a slap in the face to all of us Tex.

>>>Their voting patterns are as diverse as us whites.

That all depends which group you are looking at. LULAC, who supports McCain, or The National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials who supported Duncan Hunter and was stood up by McCain during their convention in Florida.

I think there are some regional aspects as well. Here in Michigan a lot of the hispanics don’t seem to group themselves as hispanic.

A hispanic friend of mine got angry because the shop we worked at hired a bunch of illegals and my friend was outraged that they saw him as “One of us” and told him they were illegal. He reported them to the INS

Also interesting is the fact that my congressman (Tim Walberg) was endorsed by the minuteman PAC and won in a district with a sizable hispanic population. Walberg beat incumbent pro amnesty RINO Joe Schwarz despite his backing of the GOP and even John McCain actively campaigned for him. (main street republicans sticking together)

It’s surely dawned on you by now McCain can’t win without us.

WRONG! Only in the delusion of your own heads do you think you have those types of numbers. The number of dunces who insist on a purity are actually quite low, as evidenced by the voting numbers for idiots such as Bob Barr, Ron Paul, Chuck Baldwin, etc.

Critical constituency. Interesting.

This ad is directed at illegal aliens. Illegal aliens aren't allowed to vote in US elections.

It looks like you are completely misinterpreting the point (which was mine, btw). The ad is not directed at illegal aliens. It's directed at the millions of legal hispanic immigrants who have become citizens and vote in swing states like New Mexico and Colorado.

Remember, one of the big reasons why Bush won in 2004 was because he pulled in 40% of the hispanic vote ... vice the 25-30% he was expecting to get. If McCain goes back to 25-30% he loses, and imho we're looking straight at Associate Justice of the Supreme Court Hillary Rodham Clinton as Steven's replacement and a Hillary! clone as Ginsberg's.

If they're already citizens, he doesn't need to promote his amnesty plan to them.

Sorry, legal immigrants have a path to citizenship. Illegal aliens do not.

Sorry, legal immigrants have a path to citizenship. Illegal aliens do not.

And what about the legal immigrants who have become citizens who want their non-citizen family and friends to have a path to citizenship ... and who vote?

I don't want this to get sucked down into a discussion about the policy, ideology, morality, etc surrounding the immigration issue. It's really about electoral mechanics. Show me how McCain gets to 271 without reaching out to all the extra hispanic voters who helped elect Bush in 2004.

They would follow the same path the legal immigrants took.

Then talk to McCain’s campaign, not me. He should of thought of that before he paid for this ad.

Seems like he would have gotten the message with his last attempt at that same tired old amnesty push. And what about the legal hispanic citizens who are opposed to amnesty? I guess he doesn't want their votes.

McCain can’t help himself and mainstream America does not trust him on this issue.

As for the immigration issue we're screwed no matter which of the two is elected, but on virtually every other important issue McCain is the only choice for anyone except far left liberal moonbats and brain dead loyal Democrats

I am no fan of McCain by any means, and when he became the presumptive GOP nominee I thought seriously about voting for a third party for the first time since I began voting in 1960. But that was before I learned more about Obama, and now I would vote for almost anybody who runs against him except maybe Osama bin Ladin, Chavez, or Putin, and I would have to think hard about voting for Putin if the other choice was Obama. Obama may or may not have been born in the US, and therefore he may or may not be Constitutionally eligible to be president. We will probably never know the real truth about that, but AFAIC, in view of his radically liberal political philosophy I don't consider him to be a real American at heart no matter where his flaky mother happened to be hanging out when he was born.

For all of you who do not speak Spanish, here is McCain, in ENGLISH, speaking at National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials and promising to enforce his legislature he introduced with Ted Kennedy.

McCain promises amnesty in first 100 days to NALEO

Does anyone else remember reading that?

No, but I don't doubt that it's true. Clinton may be lower than a snake's belly, but you have to admit that he's a political mastermind. If he wasn't he would never have been elected to a second term.

McCain is probably also well versed in this kind of campaigning from his races in AZ.

I could hardly disagree with the guy more on illegal immigration, but I at least respect his saying he’s heard the will of the people, and they want the borders really and effectively closed before any of that don’t-call-it-amnesty stuff. He hasn’t said he’s changed his mind on the issue, but he’s said he’s heard the will of his party and the electorate—and that he will govern accordingly. To me that’s honesty and fair enough.

As to this other Latin-targeted marketing, if we get ourselves outside of our own bubble we can probably see that that A-A community is (rightly!) very mixed on the illegal immigration issue itself.

Unfortunately I haven’t seen Obama positioned as anything but all for getting as many illegal immigrants here and voting as soon as possible, so I don’t actually believe McCain has a legitimate position against Obama here.

I’d thus rather have McCain campaign other than with this sort of ad, but he’s bought so much good will and legitimate support from us for the Palin pick, I don’t think it’s such a bad idea for us to look the other way on this until November. In my mind, Palin’s with the bulk of conservatives on this issue, and one of the advantages of her having been a governor rather than a senator is that she hasn’t got a record of positions and votes one way or the other, which is probably good because she’s controversially straight-forward enough in articulating her views as it is.

Palin has addressed illegal aliens? I’ve been looking for her views on it. Link?

No, sorry, I was trying to say she ISN’T on the record on the issue, which is helpful in her role on the ticket. I’m simply surmising by both a few stray rumors and her positions that she is on the record for that she’s not big on the ‘illegal’ in ‘illegal immigration’.

One of the major supposed downsides of senatorial running mates is that they’ve taken a position on almost everything and so have to dance around every issue they differ on from the top of their ticket. Palin DOESN’T have that problem.

I don’t find it helpful. This is an election about issues. I want her on the record as to whether she supports McCain’s “comprehensive immigration reform”. Her name is on the ad.

I wish that somebody would get on America's side on this issue.

Wish all you want and I agree with you, but it aintagonna happen. We had a chance to nominate someone like that in the primaries, but we got McCain instead. But never the less I will vote for McCain because the alternative is simply unthinkable. Except for Goldwater and Reagan, that's been the story of my life as a Republican voter for over 50 years.

I was born 50 years too late, the real U.S. of America that the 18th century American patriots founded began dying during the 1930's depression era when I was born, and finally passed away in the late 1960s. Reagan tried hard to resuscitate it, and for a while I thought he just might do it. But after 8 years it went back into the grave never to be seen again, and that's how it stands now.
