State: Pennsylvania

Updated: 9/13/2008

Summary: McCain - 49.1% Obama - 44.3% Not Sure/Other - 6.6%

"This is a classic case of polling as a snapshot in time. We're turning Pennsylvania purple today, as McCain takes a small edge. But as in Ohio, we are watching this closely and things could change in this classically blue state."

PA in 2004:

Bush only lost by 144,000 votes out of 5.8m votes cast. Just as close as Ohio

Great Post. McCain’s economic team needs to come up with a easy to follow economic plan that starts with Drilling and low Taxes, and then hammer it home.
Job creation through energy diversification for a pro-growth economy. Drill, drill, drill!!!

Yeah, those 23 EVs would be insurmountable. Hillary’s people in PA can destroy Obama and he seems not to have signed onto that concept.

I think what’s happening is these people have decided they are the new paradigm and James Carville knows nothing of election tactics.

“You show me a candidate relying on new voters and I’ll show you a loser.” . . . James Carville

I think they are rejecting that. I think they truly believe they can win by registering additional black voters and college kids. They are literally dismissing segments that didn’t support them in the primaries. They have persuaded themselves the 18-25 yr olds will overwhelm everything.

I can hear them in their meetings now . . . “Hillary says we got nominated by states we have no hope of carrying. Well, bro’s before ho’s, biotch. If you knew anything, why are you a loser. We go with our winning strategy.”

Wonder if we will hear about this poll from Chris Matthews?

If McCain takes PA, we don’t need Colorado and New Mexico. We need Republican poll watchers in Philly if we want to have a shot of winning the state.

I think New Mexico and Colorado will go to McCain/Palin. Noway McCain takes PA & OH, but not CO and NM.

At least that’s my opinion.

This has a very high "WOW" factor....is wasn't more thatn three days ago I saw Pennsylvania registered McCain down to Obama by 5%.....or maybe it was 0% (tie).

If this is accurate - of even a couple of percent on the high side....it may fortell huge shifts elsewhere.

I predict that the Philadelphia polls will remain open until the deciding Obama vote is cast.

If it's close, then we can assume that late on election night, someone will discover a trunkload of uncounted ballots from unstated precincts. There will be about 100,000 votes and they will go OBama by roughly 97% to 3%.

Take it with a grain of salt.....and then a fistful.

This poll is an ONLINE poll.

I think, that the Clinton's need obama to suffer a humiliating loss to prevent him from having a shot at the nomination in 2012. So I'm going to put PA, Michigan, Wisconsin. Virginia, Colorado, New Mexico, NH, Virginia, North Carolina, all in the McCain column. The issue will be whether or not McCain can flip states like Washington and New Jersey, California into his column. The McCain camp thought last week that California had turned purple. And based on how the race is going, I wouldn't rule out a win there.

Baldwin, Behar, Rosie, Maher, Moore, Olberman, Matthews, Oprah and the MSM; I hope you are enjoying this late election cycle as much as we are you fools.

I misread the graph originally. Zogby shows McCain up two in Colorado, not Obama.

I think we win it in the end, although it will probably be close.

I suspect Rendell and the Clinton Machine are quietly passing the word in PA that Obama is a crispy critter.

I wonder if Rendell will make a campaign stop for Obambi in PA anytime soon? I don't think we've heard from him lately about his support for Obama. I saw Rendell with McCain at the 9/11 ceremony the other day.

Indiana is not purple. Obama is wasting his time here. Daniels has a monster lead over Thompson for governor, and he’ll actually have coattails for McCain rather than the other way around. This state is reliably red in presidential elections. It’s McCain all the way in the Hoosier state.

FWIW, Zogby’s online poll was pretty accurate in 2004. Not so much in 2006.

The McCain camp needs to fry Obama for that ad mocking McCain for being too old for computers. The great potential for blacklash against Obama with Pa’s large elderly population.

Not to mention those voters who still have a sense of decency. It is one thing to mock a man's political views and quite another to mock him for a disability he received from beatings in a prisoner-of-war camp.
