Large and dangerous Hurricane Ike approaching the Upper Texas coast. Mandatory evacuations began in earnest Thursday as an estimated one million coastal residents headed inland. There were widespread reports of gas stations running out of fuel.
The National Weather Service posted dire storm surge predictions of 20-25 ft storm surge along the coast and bay heads. Hurricane warnings covered a 400 mile swath of the Gulf of Mexico.
Wholesale gasoline prices spiked 30 percent Thursday, or nearly $1 a gallon, out of fear of what Ike might do.

Okay, I'll do that.....
(later) Well, I thought I was going to come back with a link for you, but it appears the crystalline clarity of my memory has become a little cloudy. I find no evidence that there was such an incident in Lebanaon. You were right--it was in Iraq, in early 2003. Thanks for the correction.
But once was enough--I still detest Geraldo for what he did. And in trying to find the incident I was sure I remembered, I read a lot about him that sinks him even lower in my opinion!
He does sometimes seem to do things indicating he might be a few bricks short of a hod.
Not stupid though, just incredibly "doesn't give a shiite"
I know that’s the song du nuit but my favorite REO song has always been Time For Me To Fly. I think it’s epically good.
“about one hour for rescues...”
Godspeed to all.
I am heading off, gotta take the pup out, and get some sleep.
Take care all,

They said Brennans of Houston is originally a New Orleans reasturant. Cause of fire unknown.
I’m fading out here in Colorado. May God protect all of you in harm’s way, and bring you safely through the night.
G’night, and thanks for the music to hurricane FReep by ; }
God watch over us all tonight,
Tatt
Who was asking about La Port? Fox has a guy on there now.
Ok, that’s what I have. I just wanted to make sure the thread was updated. (Couldn’t read the long parts that I missed earlier)
If anyone gets anymore good Jerry clips when the back of the eye wall comes in include me in your ping.
Good night all, stay safe!
The power fluctuations is freaking out my computer. The howling winds are freaking out this user. It’s whistling and spinning the thingies on the roof. Creepy.
So if I go away, I will miss the company.
To the Houston/Coastal freepers Stay Safe, Stay Dry! Prayers for all of you in Ike’s path.
I could not help but think re: the warehouse fire in Galveston & the fire in Brennans..
Fire will be covered with insurance
Hurricane wipe out will not (I dont think so)
arson however is sometimes hard to prove.. esp after a hurricane covers it up
Brennan's of Houston. Restaurant, been there forever. According to: http://www.myfoxhoustonlive.com/

We probably won’t know if Galveston lives or dies till after the aircraft go up and get back tomorrow morning...0900-1000 or later, depending on windfields on the back side.
Got a feeling Port Arthur will be...late...checking in.
Thanks Strategerist, that’s is way below what they said.
here a pic of the one in Houston that burned down tonight...
http://www.nicphillips.com/nicspicks/images/stories/Bren2.jpg
It’s a good size building and was 2 stories high.
It is possible that other buildings near it caught on fire also, the flames were pretty large from the cam FOX had on TV.
hi, norm
