Large and dangerous Hurricane Ike approaching the Upper Texas coast. Mandatory evacuations began in earnest Thursday as an estimated one million coastal residents headed inland. There were widespread reports of gas stations running out of fuel.
The National Weather Service posted dire storm surge predictions of 20-25 ft storm surge along the coast and bay heads. Hurricane warnings covered a 400 mile swath of the Gulf of Mexico.
Wholesale gasoline prices spiked 30 percent Thursday, or nearly $1 a gallon, out of fear of what Ike might do.

What did Geraldo do/say? No tv here. Thanks!
Stay safe!
So far we still have power here. Stay safe & check back in when you can.
Gas went from $3.89 to $4.99 here this afternoon, and we’re nowhere near the storm.

Either that or a board from a pier will smack him out of nowhere.
117 mph gust........yikes!
/dies laughing
Think of it this way. Would Geraldo want to die in a way that would not get him any less coverage on Television than he usually got by doing everything he could (and losing his dignity) to do so.
He better get out of there, eye wall minutes away from them.
117 mph winds Geraldo almost fell again
They are hanging onto each other to stand up
Whoops thats from this morning
just flipped back over to see Geraldo....it is really frightening. Someone get that man away from this.
and Shep with his “ha ha ha”....what a dufus.
That’s the question: will the satellite feed give out before we have to see someone injured or worse live on tv??
Yes, there will be roughly 4 hours of calm moonlight for those in the midrange of the eye. For the unlucky folks in the eyewall on either side, they will have almost as many hours of living hell.
Winds are 115mph where Geraldo is. Camera keeps cutting out
Shep claims eyewall will be over Galveston in just a few minutes.
geraldo is starting to annoy me.
“look I’m standing...”
Say what you want.. This is great TV.. I cannot stand his politics but when he covers these storms he’s very entertaining.
I certaintly don’t wanna see him get killed, but I wouldn’t mind something funny happening where he got hurt a little.
Ironic. Shep just said Ike has now entered Galveston, and the FNC team will now be able to report, in the eye.
A major pipeline was shut in anticipation to this storm, It feeds the SE.
