Hurricane Ike Live Thread Part II
NOAA/NHC ^ | 10 September 2008 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 09/10/2008 2:18:37 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Texas began issuing mandatory and voluntary evacuations as Hurricane Ike continued to strengthen and slowly moved toward an uncertain landfall destination in the western Gulf of Mexico. Texas Governor Rick Perry issued a disaster declaration in advance of the storm. Louisiana Governor Jindal released several hundred buses to Texas for evacuation assistance.

Reports from Cuba indicate widespread damage from Hurricane Ike, which raked the length of the island nation. The U.S. State Department again offered Cuba humanitarian assistance after a previous offer was declined by the Cuban government.

The stock market Wednesday rose as investors bought oil stocks and and oill futures fell.

You are welcome to help yourself to our pecans...provided you can wrestle them away from the infamous Florida squirrels.

I was wondering when Anderson would make it down there. Now we’re just waiting on Geraldo and Shep.

I received an email from a co-worker whose home is one block off the seawall in Galveston. He and another employee are going to ride things out in a house on Broadway in Galveston

If you can still email your friend.. I'd seriously send him a note and ask him to google "Biloxi, Katrina"... and have a look at what remains of homes 3 or 4 blocks from the coast.. some of which had been there more than 100 years.

If he still wants to stay after that... then, say your goodbyes to your co-worker.

I've talked to a few friends who are in Angleton... EVERYTHING is closed there. Wal-Mart closed yesterday. My good friend, Matt Sebesta, is County Commissioner in Brazoria County.. and, he tells me most everyone in the low-lying areas has left.

I sure hope so...

Oh, I know... That was more rhetorical than anything else. Rooting around more and more, this is going to carry very strong winds very far inland, unless something changes drastically.
I’ve seen no suggestion anywhere that it will change.

We went to Rice on Fountain View and it wasn’t bad.

My sister went there today... they tried to charge her $9.00 for THREE apples! Maybe, that's why no one goes there????

You’re right. This is not something to ride out. If anything it keeps looking worse, even if it does not intensify.

He’s one of those liberal democat attorneys from Chicago who said that it was unconstitutional for them to tell him he had to evacuate. You can’t tell him anything. Several of us have offered him a place to shelter and he refuses to leave. One less vote for Obama.

Most years squirrels completely strip the 2 end trees bare but still leave us plenty from the remaining 4 trees. I got about 450# 2 years ago with what they left. One year though I guess they were anticipating a cold winter and there would be at least a dozen squirrels constantly running nuts across the street to their nests all day long. Last year? after Rita, I left all the rest for the squirrels.

When I thought I might have to leave...another concern
The grapefruit are almost size but green. I was thinking huh. Do I pluck them or let them get blown off like Dolly did to my orange tree:’)
