Texas began issuing mandatory and voluntary evacuations as Hurricane Ike continued to strengthen and slowly moved toward an uncertain landfall destination in the western Gulf of Mexico. Texas Governor Rick Perry issued a disaster declaration in advance of the storm. Louisiana Governor Jindal released several hundred buses to Texas for evacuation assistance.
Reports from Cuba indicate widespread damage from Hurricane Ike, which raked the length of the island nation. The U.S. State Department again offered Cuba humanitarian assistance after a previous offer was declined by the Cuban government.
The stock market Wednesday rose as investors bought oil stocks and and oill futures fell.

Looking at the photos of Ike I don't think he will fit through it anyway.
Not sure we will be seeing them when we go back to work.

Reports say the sea-wall may be over-topped 5 feet +,,,
I’m not sure much will be left of Galveston...
Coastal storm surge flooding of up to 20 feet above normal tide
levels...along with large and dangerous battering waves...can be
expected near and to the east of where the center of Ike makes
landfall...except at the heads of bays...where surge flooding of
up to 25 feet could occur.
Hurricane Ike is located about 370 miles SE of Galveston TX.
LOL, true, true.
I was more concerned that the Psycho Girl will get picked up by the wind and go on a little adventure that might end up less that good.
:-)
That's neat. I sent it to my sister in Indy whose daughter is in Humble.
Here's a live link to that site.
We sit here surrounded by tall pine trees. Until the latest shift, everybody we know was also in the path--some looking worse than us.
When I say we have NOTHING available in the way of shelter, not even to go to for the duration of the storm...which is all I want. If we are to be without elec for a while, we're out of here afterward anyway.
I think tomorrow I'll put a "contract out" on EOC in advance if anything happens to us.
They mught be running out of plywood down here (Friendswood). I’ve seen some houses with gypsum board (drywall) over the windows. Not sure how well that will hold up once it gets soaked.
Has it shifted?
nope, still headed to Houston, new models should be in shortly!
Glad you like it. It’s pretty neat. :-)
We went to Rice on Fountain View and it wasn’t bad. That store never has many customers I don’t know why they keep it open. You stay safe now ya hear!
have you got everything tied to a big rock eastforker?
Its gonna get messy
Thanks
I think it shifted a microcosm. Stormpulse.com sorta looks like it shifted maybe a mile right, just enough to put part of it on the east side, we’re still going to get hammered.
Or I could be blowing smoke, and the blonde is really out today. :-)
Hey Easty, are you and the family all snugged up?
Yup,all gassed up for the gen, freezer stcked, pantry full, just waitin.
Yup, right now the eye is tracking right over the house. I’ll fill the boats with water tomorow.
Weren’t they still saying near Freeport? Or has that changed?
The forecast track in stormpulse illustrates a direct hit on Houston in the 8PM update.
This now looks pretty solid - and awfully bad for Galveston
Yeah, that what it looks like, making land east of Freeport.
The new slightly adjust track, happens to put me on the clean side, although I don't think that will make a difference, considering how tight that fit is going to be. But I am taking all the positive that I can get.
