Texas began issuing mandatory and voluntary evacuations as Hurricane Ike continued to strengthen and slowly moved toward an uncertain landfall destination in the western Gulf of Mexico. Texas Governor Rick Perry issued a disaster declaration in advance of the storm. Louisiana Governor Jindal released several hundred buses to Texas for evacuation assistance.
Reports from Cuba indicate widespread damage from Hurricane Ike, which raked the length of the island nation. The U.S. State Department again offered Cuba humanitarian assistance after a previous offer was declined by the Cuban government.
The stock market Wednesday rose as investors bought oil stocks and and oill futures fell.

By the time we got home (4 weeks) the trees were gone but I had 7 stumps on the ground with roots and azeleas in the air.
Things will never be back to "normal."
There you go.No wife to “encourage” him to get them up:’)
remarkable...
hopefully it will trend more east to spare Galveston.
If it doesn’t, it is going to be unbelievably bad. Water is already lapping at houses.
LOL excellent point. I think really, people who havn’t been thru one just don’t understand. I know I didn’t.

I’ve been wondering if all the refugees from Katrina that left NO will now permanently move back there?
Have not seen girlscout post today, I guess they bugged out last night.

FYI, ABC channel 13 just announced that due to their continuing coverage of hurricane preparation, the first segment of the Charlie Gibson interview with the next VPOTUS will be aired at 6:15. (less than one hour from now).
I’m in NW Harris County in Cypress, TX and will be hunkering down.
Thanks for letting us know. I don’t want to miss it!
http://www.stormpulse.com/ is a nice site. I like the graphics.
Are you and your Mom okay? Are you in Ike’s path? Any luck getting medical help to get your Mom moved out?
I boarded up for Rita, then saved the labeled plywood for future use. It took a good 20 hours to measure, cut and place the plywood for Rita - my neighbors all worked together to do three houses.
We unpacked the plywood from the back of the garage and boarded up all three houses in 3 hours this afternoon.
We are much more prepared than we were for Rita and I am afraid that we will need it this time.
Look at Ike's size in relationship to the Great Lakes.
Thanks! I was watching Ch 11.
Then you were close to where I was in Alica, I was off 81st.
They are threatining again that this storm will “overtop the Seawall”. Has not happened in 100 years.

Guennie, could this be the historical tracking you had mentioned?

It replays and goes back to its starting point on 9/1/08, even if it starts at mid track when you first see it.
