Minus U.S. Money, Obama Team Presses Donors

After months of record-breaking fund-raising, a new sense of urgency in Senator Barack Obama’s fund-raising team is palpable as the full weight of the campaign’s decision to bypass public financing for the general election is suddenly upon it.

Pushing a fund-raiser later this month, a finance staff member sent a sharply worded note last week to Illinois members of its national finance committee, calling their recent efforts “extremely anemic.”

At a convention-week meeting in Denver of the campaign’s top fund-raisers, buttons with the image of a money tree were distributed to those who had already contributed the maximum $2,300 to the general election, a subtle reminder to those who had failed to ante up.

The signs of concern have become evident in recent weeks as early fund-raising totals have suggested that Mr. Obama’s decision to bypass public financing may not necessarily afford him the commanding financing advantage over Senator John McCain that many had originally predicted.

I think Obama’s so called 50 state strategy was really about spreading the walking around money to the lower echelons of the democrat party machine.

Now that Obama has abandoned his 50 state attack, it seems some lower end dignitaries are not going to get their walking around money and it is a problem.

Remember Obama has to do fund raisers to keep up the flow.

I think also the recent “66 million” announcment is really about spin not substance.

You have to wonder how many of those 500,000 are real donors.

Hillary had postal workers donating 50k. (did she EVER give back that money?)

I bet those 500k donors will ahve an interesting biography.

Now that is an interesting observation. It implies that they are already suffering with cash problems. The down ticket candidates will borrow money promising payment with funds from the DNC that will be worthless.

this is the way it works....you bring a few thousands to the black churches...you hand $50 to each member who in turns “donates” it in his name to the Obamanation.....
