1. She can deliver natural and biting satire in a funny way: parfum of The Simpsons, pararphrasing her speech here: When they haul the styrofoam pillars off Obamas stage . what is left that is real?
2. She hired a writer who is an original rather than a speech-writery one one who apparently enhances how/who she is, rather than trying to make her say lofty things. Thats not her style. (The speech writers of this election cycle, from ALL sides, often sound like the writers tacked together aphorisms from quote books they thought were deep, just changing the words around a bit.)
3. She has a huge talent for mimicking others, for observation of human traits, for memorization, as well as the knack for delivery that appears sincere; her gestures are absolutely cohesive.
4. She is fiercely feminine.
5. She is ace smart
6. She is an outsider who tonight, consistently says disarming things insiders would never say, hardly even think to say.
7. She has a good voice, not a whiney one. Its slightly, as I said, to the satiric side, but also warm, clear, articulate.
8. She is bold and common-sensical regarding her own milieu, political and familial.
9. She is completely comfortable, and gives the appearance of realness, as opposed to some of the thick personas slabbed on by some Washingtonians.
10. She is not afraid, not self effacing, not woman-only identified. She is a protectoress, a woman who guards the perimeters.
Later, Ill offer some thoughts on the potential danger areas of some of her strongest traits.
For now, her standards and values and beliefs will no doubt be supported and quarreled with, slammed around, uplifted, condemned.
But, her innate gifts that she has honed and turned toward leadership, toward being a running mate now, her talents will continue to make her a formidable opponent. For anyone.
It would be an error to think she is Senator Bidens opponent. She isnt.
She is Senator Obamas opponent.
No matter who wrote it - her timing and delivery were picture perfect! And that COULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED without her active collaboration on the content. I do not believe that any other person in that hall - including all of the other speakers - could have brought the content to life the way she did.
the left probably thought: “oh she’s a creationist and her unmarried daughter is pregnant. She must be another Miss Teen South Carolina.”
I’ve been skeptical of the whole thing. I wanted Kay Bailey Hutchison.
I have a special needs child and know the demands that entails.
However, my husband was the one that pointed out that sometimes it’s a person’s responsibility to lead, and I think that’s what’s going on.
It’s her time, and time to send prayers to the family.
You and a whole bunch of other folks!
...in your face.
From a great liberal songwriter:
She is frequently kind
And shes suddenly cruel
She can do as she pleases
Shes nobodys fool
But she cant be convicted
Shes earned her degree
And the most she will do
Is throw shadows at you
But shes always a woman to me
In her case it’d be “Women Who The Wolves Run From”.
I am no Rudy fan, but he more than did his job with the keynote. Great job Rudy, now on to defeating Andrew the Ape in 2010!
I remember chatting/posting with you last week before he announced her. I am so glad to see you back on here tonight! : )
DITTO!
I haven’t made a lot of friends recently. I was skeptical, and I think she does have enormous job in front of her.
However, she did an excellent job tonight and she made Thompson, Romney, and Giuliani look like amateurs. (I didn’t see the other speeches.)
I’m old enough to remember Reagan’s speech in 1964 at the Cow Palace convention. This one reminded me of that.
I am a Texan. Kay B has done some great things and some..not so much. If she runs for governor, I won’t just vote for her just because. She may have to “show me”.
Kay B would not have generated any electricity (and won’t in a gubinatorial race, more of the same).
But maybe Palin’s husband is a care taker. Many men have made a change with stong backing. So maybe she will have that same backing.
Myself, I say leave the family in Alaska. Keep them out of the cess pool of D.C.
Having kids with special needs isn't easy (I have my autistic son, but then a couple of minor issues with the girls), and moms who deal with it know that. She will have her work cut out for her. I do work out of the home (not by choice, but I am the one with the better education and training) and my husband is home. Between him and my parents, I have a great network...and sometimes, quite honestly, the shift between the two worlds helps me to keep my sanity. ; ) (That sounds bad, but my kids are what some call "high energy.")
I do have to say that the benefit to my son being autistic, is that while we deal with some HORRIBLE teenage mood swings, we don't have to worry about some other teenage things other parents do.
The way she paused for a while until the crowd quieted down before she delivered that line you could tell that it was something she wanted everyone in America to hear. That line was important to her.
The media will give ground grudgingly but I think she will learn to play them pretty quickly. She is already off to a great start.
Obama's gonna have to go on an Austin Powers style search for his mojo. Someone stole it tonight.
BO is so yesterday.
Wow. If they want harsh, they should go back to Spiro Agnew in 1968. That was harsh. Or Ann Richards in 1988. That was harsh.
The only reason Palin sounded harsh to some is she hit so true. She punctured balloons the media has allowed to be blown up by BO while the media applauded. I've been waiting for someone to finally ask, "just what does a 'community organizer' do?"
That question is going to produce some funny responses by BO as he tries to convince people that community organizer actually qualifies you for something. And looming behind all that is . . . ta da . . . terrorists, William Ayers and Bernadette Dohrnn (sp?). It's funny. Because BO does have some executive experience--running CAC from 1995-2001. But he can't talk about it because he ran it with . . . ta da . . . William Ayers.
I've posted this several times. This will go in history as one of the greatest rope-a-dopes in history. 24/7 comparisons of our #2 vs their #1. They lose big time.
Something that is never discussed because the media is busy trying to cause a 17 year old girl to have an emotional breakdown or a spontaneous miscarriage that they can blame on her Mother.
Of course, the 17 year old is a Palin, and it just won't happen. LOL
