Zell Miller was a lot more conservative than Lieberma, who is not conservative at all. Zell was more conservative than several republican Senators. I know...believe me, I know. At least two of the Senators less conservative than Zell are no longer in office (Chaffee and DeWine). I was primarily answering the question posted about a Democrat addressing the Republican convention, and simply stating that he wasn't running for reelection. His term was ending, and having been appointed to replace the late Paul Coverdell, he was ready to retire and spend time with his family.
But oh what a gift he left before he retired!

Yeay, JOE! Now just change parties. I get the “I can talk to the independents and dems” shtick, but let’s get serious! SHUMER, REID, PELOSI, WEXLER— they are all going to trash Joe!

Harry Reid is listening. Sharpening his knife as we speak.

In a side note, watching a play-by-play of the counter convention. Jesse Ventura is calling for a civil war “their blood will water the tree of liberty”... they are trying to get the protesters and anti-Repubs violent.
To: Doofer
Lieberman did well. His words were chosen carefully.
To: DrDeb
True, Joe did not sling the red meat that Zell Miller did, but his speech was a brilliant attempt to win over the moderates and independents.

Agree. Joe was no Zell Miller, but this was a different convention, at a different time, for a different purpose.

After every speaker, CNN almost immediately goes to a Donna Brazile. She has NOTHING good to say about anyone speaking.
WTH?

That Lieberman speech ended up being quite fantastic overall - especially given its purpose. His delivery was far better than his speech in 2000 as well.
To: Tigercap
I remember when the Democrats had that sleepover filibuster on the Iraq War, and Lieberman gave the speech of a lifetime, too bad it will be forgotten in history.

He ended strong!
I'm still fuming over the fact that the networks didn't cover Fred's speech start to finish. IT WAS SO GOOD!
