As I said, though, it REALLY raised my respect for John McCain - that he would take her on AFTER KNOWING ABOUT THIS FACTOR! Amazing! It really defangs the argument that his only reason for deciding to tap Palin was blatant political considerations.

I have serious doubts that a modern political campaign would do this if they knew....no matter what campaign it was or who was running. You simply don't take such risks unless you are going after a major player for some other reason. Palin is a relative unknown so I can't see a campaign taking such a risk for a relative unknown. So I really can't believe McCain knew.

I also seriously doubt Palin knew. She knows very well that such a think is not hideable.

The only logical explanation is that the daughter was the only one that knew until now and the campaign is in DC mode.

My concern right now would be support for the daughter since, if thats the case, she would have been really worried for the last week or so. Probably out of her mind if my theory was right. My message to her would be, don't worry about elections, candidates, television commentators, Democrats, self-righteous, etc. It will be fine. None of that stuff is your responsibility. Just take care of baby and you will end up having somebody else who loves you forever and who you will love and thats darn good.

I’ll admit to you, though, my absolutely second thought (first was Oh,No) was, “I’ll bet mom didn’t know until Saturday”.

BUT, if I trust this as it is being portrayed now, it really raises my opinion of McCain through the roof.

You are probably right about Bristol being the only one who knew. You seem to understand just how Bristol has been feeling and gave her very good advice. Kudos.
