ST. PAUL -- The 17-year-old daughter of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin is pregnant, Palin said on Monday in an announcement intended to knock down rumors by liberal bloggers that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for her child.

So far — and it is hard to tell what the future may hold for Palin’s unexpected national candidacy — the travails of the Palin family probably seem awfully familiar to many average Americans. It is this averageness that makes her such a politically promising running mate for John McCain — and such a dangerous opponent for Democrats. Many voters will find it easy to identify with her family’s struggles — a significant advantage in an election where the voting calculus is so unusually and intensely personal.

In my family we were expecting before we were married...I was in the wrong before God and I knew it...but I told him I would stand by the mother and marry her. Immediately, the sense of deep guilt left me and I felt the inner strength to “pay the bride price” as the bible stated. Now 19 years later and 4 beautiful children I’m confident it was a wise decision to face up to my responsibilities as a man before God.

Does this mean I should have sinned in the first place...no and I have learned over the years some of the blessings I lost when I stepped out of God’s will. Not just for me, but fore my spouse as well. Perhaps had I been stronger not yielded to temptation she would have had a better life with some-one else...I don’t know.

Carnal self centeredness effects more than one person, it effects other folks and even descendants to come. There-fore it becomes important to begin to view ones’ life not as a finite collection of solitary acts of faith vs. faithlessness(with no other effects upon other present and future selves). Rather we should each view our own lives as dams in time and dimension in which the effects of a carefully lived faith hold back the effects of the sins of our forefathers while allowing the faith of Jesus Christ to effect our present and future relationships.

Even when mistakes are made, the character shown in admitting and correcting for such errors does much repair the spiritual breeches!

It simply should not have been her time this time... with a new challenged baby to care for, and a pregnant underage daughter... I mean, honestly, don’t y’all think her plate’s a little full without being the second most powerful person in the most powerful nation on the planet, with a war to win and an economy to energize? And is it fair to her family? I mean, seriously, think about it. No disrespect to a fantastic woman with a lot of potential, but... let’s get real.

I agree totally with one very big BUT: I believe that this election may be the last chance we have to keep this country from going down into the dung heap of history. I wasn't a McCain supporter, but I sense McCain knows that and also knew that without energizing the base, his cause would be almost hopeless. And though Mitt and Pawlenty would have been acceptable, it would not be the same. This has gotten the base needed to win the election excited and though I feel for the lady and her family, she was chosen and accepted and now we must move forward to get them elected.

You’re right. It has nothing to do with her being nominated or serving as VP. But, all the experts are out telling her how she and her husband should live their lives and how they should feel about it.

The others are freaked because they are threatened by the prospect of real competition to their candidate for President - who has been chosen by God to win the election.

Since the slimy leftist media forced the issue, the upside is an new angle on the abortion issue has arisen since BHO was born under similar circumstances.

Since BHO's dad was married to a woman in Kenya @ the time of his conception, did that make him a bigamist or a polygamist when he married BHO's mom?

Also, Barack should answer the question - considering his 18 year old mom's the circumstances, would the world be better off if his mom had a legal choice to take his life before he was born?

You do know that by this definition of “abortion”, the female body naturally kills tens of thousands of “babies” all by itself?

Opposing the existence or use of birth control isn’t “conservative” or “right” in either sense of the word.

Besides, have you checked out the poll numbers on outlawing basic contraception? You’d have an easier time legalizing herion in this country than outlawing contraceptives. It just ain’t gonna happen.

If you hold the line on contraceptives out of “principle”, you’ll just continue to make conservatives look like crazies who want to control sex, and we’ll keep losing the abortion debate. The millions of *real* dead aborted babies—you know, the ones with more than 100 cells—will surely thank you for your principled stand.

Don’t you realize that a 17-year-old getting pregnant is WAY more important to the Drive-Bys than possible conflict of interest and influence-peddling at the highest levels of the American government?

This is really starting to piss me off, and I'm going to yell to make sure some of the thicker people around here get it.

THERE ARE TWO PARENTS IN THIS FAMILY

If she were a single mom you'd have a valid point. She's not, so you don't.

This is simply turning into a stealth father bashing session.

Would anyone be talking this way if it were the father running for this office? Why not?

Are mothers so much more important?

What the hell do think the father will be doing while Sara is off doing important VP type stuff?

Or is a man incapable of taking care of children?

You either believe that or you're suffering from a logical disconnect.

Tell me, why are you, and others like you, completely dismissing the father in this family.

A man is incapable of having a baby and nursing it.

Since Sarah Palin has a young baby, and it is recommended to nurse young babies, this is a reasonable argument.

Her husband cannot take her place.

So, breast feeding is what this is all about?

That's it?

That was a serious answer?

Really?
