Sarah Palin Is Not a Stand-In for Hillary Clinton
Fox News ^ | Friday, August 29, 2008 | Susan Estrich

Women are not fungible.

I don’t know if anyone sitting around with John McCain in the last few days has explained that to him; frankly, I don’t know if there even were any women sitting around with John McCain in the last few days. But, I think I understand a few things about Hillary’s base in the Democratic party, and why so many women have been so loyal to her, and if John McCain thinks that simply picking another person with similar anatomy is going to win their votes, he’s about to learn a very important lesson in gender politics.

Nothing again Sarah Palin. To be honest, I don’t know her. She is a newcomer to the national scene, new enough to make Barack Obama look like an old-timer.

She has been governor of Alaska for less than two years. Before that, she was mayor of a town in Alaska that is smaller than my immediate neighborhood. Sort of makes serving in the Illinois legislature look like secretary of state. She had the guts to take on the corrupt Republican establishment in her state, and she deserves credit for that.

{Snip}

Frankly, I was afraid he would pick Colin Powell, whose stellar credentials and accomplishments would have given a feel of experience and solidity to the Republican ticket – and eliminated entirely the racism argument for not supporting Obama – that might have clinched this election.

But he didn’t.

Maybe Powell wasn’t available. Maybe the problem was that he was pro-choice. Whatever it was, while the selection of Palin will certainly change the conversation quickly, it only underscores the questions about experience that have been the core of McCain’s attack on Obama. Only this time, they will be asked of the Republican ticket.

She’s just jealous.

And she’s the one who needs to learn about gender politics...

Why Susan, you’re absolutely correct. Sarah is not like Hillary. Sarah is a self made success. She’s a whole lot prettier too.

The Hillaristas never wanted to admit that her support was only partly about her ideas. There exist large numbers of women who simply want to see a woman on the ticket. Obama is getting his support, in large part, from people who simply want to see a Black as president.

The women who want to see a woman on the ticket will happily pull the lever for McCain/Palin. I am happy to accept their support

My fiance got a good look at Mr. Palin yesterday and practically started drooling. Of course since I was lauding Sarah to the skies I couldn’t really object, but it did strike me a funny.

I think that a lot of the feminazi hatred at Palin is going to be because of sheer utter jealousy of her wonderful family life.

what makes SP so appealing is that she is the anti-Hillary: she has achieved what she has on her own, not on her husband’s coattails; she is a problem-solver, not a strict partisan, and she is a woman of principle, she walks the walk (she doesn’t just talk the talk). she is just the kind of woman leader i have been waiting for lo these 50+ years!

Susan Estrich, just one more reason they created the delete button.

I heard somebody on FNC refer to her as "Dr. Estrich". I think that leads to her intuitive grasp of the obvious.

Of course Sarah Palin is not Hillary Clinton. That's why Sarah Palin is making speeches as an active part of a national ticket, and Hillary is home throwing ashtrays.

And just the idea that Susan would suggest Colin Powell is reason enough to keep Powell off the ticket.

new enough to make Barack Obama look like an old-timer

I don't think she realized the import to this thought. Sara is new and fresh to the scene. Obama now looks more like 'the old polotics' he claims not to be.

They keep shooting like this, they're not going to have a foot to stand on.

I really didn’t think Susan would be this stupid as reflected in this opinion piece. I guess I should never underestimate the stupidity of liberals.

Sarah's a worker, not a leach. I bet she even ironed before Perma Press. She stands "with her man" in all things!!

Damn, I only hunted for deer. Yes, I'm jealous.

Of course not, Sarah is much greater.

It’s going to be fun to watch the orthodox feminists attack her.

Colon Powell would not have eliminated the race aspect. Demographically, the Republicans have never had success with the black population, and I could just see all the words like “token” and such being used. It would have made a bad situation worse, and the repubs still wouldn't have the black vote.

She also does not get it about how important it was for McCain to pick someone that would energize the Christian right. Some of them (like me) would have stood in line for hours to vote for McCain - not because of him but because of Obama. Others were so disillusioned with the Republicans that they would have stayed home, voted but not for POTUS, or voted third party. Sarah Palin is someone who has not only delivered an entire group of voters, but is someone who is so inspirational that these formerly disaffected voters will donate to and work hard for the Republican ticket.

I think Palin is exactly what this ticket needs. Palin is a success due to her own work and resolve.

Hillary can only dream of the accomplishments this woman has achieved.

To be honest, I don’t know her. "But that's not going to stop me from rendering an uninformed opinion," Estridge did not continue to say.

We need some pictures to explain this story...

“The Good” - Palin
“The Bad” - Hillary
“The Ugly” - Susan

Is that an airbrushed photo of her taken 20 years ago. I think so. In the meantime, all those heaters have taken their toll. In 2030, they’ll still be saying she was Dukakis’ campaign manager in 1988, as though it’s something to brag about. Her snideness is palpable.
