Conservative Dems bailing on Obama; Rasmussen has no Michelle O bounce
hotair.com ^ | August 27, 2008 | Ed Morrissey

Barack Obama has had an unprecedented slide in polling over the summer, losing as much as twelve points nationally and squandering momentum gained from besting Hillary Clinton in the primaries. Gallup’s polling has mirrored that of almost every other national survey, and they drill down to find the answer to Obama’s decline:

Barack Obama has been struggling to maintain his Democratic base thus far in August, and according to weekly averages of Gallup Poll Daily tracking, the problem seems to be with conservative Democrats.

Within the Democratic Party, Obama’s losses are primarily evident among the relatively small group that describes its political views as conservative. The 63% of conservative Democrats supporting Obama over McCain in Aug. 18-24 polling is the lowest Obama has earned since he clinched the Democratic nomination in June. At the same time, there have been no similar drops in support for Obama in the preferences of liberal or moderate Democrats.

As a result of this, support for Obama among all Democratic registered voters fell from 81% in early August (Aug. 4-10) to 78% last week (Aug. 18-24). Obama’s support from Republicans over this period also dipped from 9% to 7%, while 42% to 43% of independents have consistently supported him.

It’s not just conservative Democrats, either, although that has to be Obama’s main concern at the moment. Blue-dog Democrats have to run for tough Congressional races in the fall, and they will get linked to Obama regardless of whether they publicly embrace him or not. If Obama is losing credibility among conservative Democrats, the Blue Dogs will find that Obama’s impact on their race will become a net negative and could cost some of them their seats — most of which they won from Republicans in 2006.

Wait a minute, I thought Chuck Todd was a Republican? He and Joe are the only ones without venom dripping out of their mouths.

And poor Joe — his days are numbered. I like him, and just hope he makes it through both conventions.

My “FDR Grannie” passed this Spring. If she were still with us I have no doubt that some nurses-aid would be voting her absentee ballot for Obama from the break-room.

I cannot imagine what is going on behind the scenes at MSNBC. Someone is going to take a swing at someone pretty soon. It seems tho, that Mika is being especially nice to Joe.

It is very important who McCain chooses at this point. It is the South and Midwest dems who will not support Obama, but it is those same Republicans who will not support a liberal republican VP.

Absolutely on target!! McCain's VP choice is critical and if he chooses poorly, there could actually be a close race between the people not voting for the Obamessiah, and people not voting for McCain.

They probably will do it anyway.

Oh, I'm sure there are plenty of people born prior to the civil rights movement that will not vote for a colored man....and that 70 something grandfather is possibly one of them however, that recently widowed single mom with the 6 year old son is in her mid-forties and I never would have expected that from her....never.

They both echoed the exact same sentiments about NObama and neither of them were together at the same event. Something big is going out there and I can only guess what it is......gas prices, a do nothing congress, Russian aggression in Georgia, years of empty dimrat promises, tax increases are the answer to everything????

Your guess is as good as mine...all I know is that I don't even remember this kind of anger back 1994 when both houses switched over to the right.

Thanks for that report, Eva. Did Kurtz mention what his next move is...writing another column, giving the docs to a news outlet, etc.? Did Greta ask to view them?

Oh, the papers were released this week. Stanley Kurtz has been reviewing them, but the Obama campaign is trying to have the 527 who made the ad about Obama and Ayres legally investigated. This could have several purposes, one, to shut down all investigation into the Ayres affair (by getting a judge to shut it off until a judicial verdict comes in), two, to warn all media outlets off covering the story, lest they be accused of being an accomplice.

Greta tried to down play the news, which was listed as breaking news, by the way. She said to Kurtz, but this isn’t 100% yet, right? Kurtz said, well, he hadn’t had a chance to review all the documents, yet, but that from what we knew before and what he has read so far, this is very very serious for Obama, that not only did he lie about his relationship with Ayres, but that the money that was supposed to benefit the public schools did no such thing. That the money simply went to the radical far left groups that support Obama politics.

Greta asked Kurtz to keep her updated.

Thanks for that report...I pinged you on another thread, too. Rush has barely touched on this topic, which is odd. Could it be that everyone is waiting to see if Barry will succeed in getting a judge to block all reporting?

NOT CHET EDWARDS!!!

he's got his lips firmly placed on the hind quarters of Barak Hussein Obamalamadingdong.

cause doncha know that the mean republicans in the Waco and Bryan-college Station area wouldn't shovel pork to A&M or fund the Waco VA...

Mean old Republicans would chunk the vets under a bridge and somehow make A&M .....what? A poor university....

Someone in Edward's district needs to find us a congressman that will get rid of this putz and hang obabamalamadingdong around his neck for the rest of his life.

Crickets from the mainstreamers. I’ve heard how the Obama brown shirts are attempting a media blockade and assassination of Kurtz.
