Brit Hume is not as young as he looks. My thought is that he will be cutting back on his schedule, if not retiring. Sammons looks to be a great replacement, IMHO.
I think at the very first she tried that rictus, bottom teeth bared "smile" that is intended to intimidate without screetching at someone and the attendant "I'm warning you" tone in her voice. He didn't smile, get nervous or back off. He just stared her back down, and she fell apart.
Borrowing a phrase from HRC, she was gasping for air. Rodguy, I thought of you because she reminded me of a fish flopping around (OK, that would be gasping for water...)
Her trunk stayed relatively stable, but her arms, hands, and head were going everywhere and she literally looked like she couldn't get her breath. She often cut off part of the last word in her sentences while her eyes were darting all over.
I've seen her use that initial tone and facial expression to intimidate interviewers before and it often used to work. They'd sort of laugh nervously and back way off. Didn't work with Stephy a couple weeks ago, didn't work with Brokaw.
He really put it to her about drilling off shore and she tried to make it a whole package* with maybe some drilling and it would be more helpful to drain the Strategic Reserve (didn't say what country it would be helpful to).
Brokaw even finished up with some kind of comment about we'll be drilling then or maybe he said we'll be voting on drilling then (which means we'll be drilling), and she tried to correct him but he just cut her off and the statement stood.
She was way past nervous IMO; she was a mess. *BTW when Brokaw asked her something about whether Biden's experience really made up for BHO's lack of same, she carried on as though BHO had all the experience in the world, "He's the complete package."
Excuse me, that last one wasn’t the concession speech, though some clear conservative points are made(poor choice Lieberman wouldn’t get it), here it is;
Romney’s Withdrawal Speech
http://www.realclearpolitics.com/articles/2008/02/romneys_withdrawal_speech.html
The threat to our culture comes from within. The 1960’s welfare programs created a culture of poverty. Some think we won that battle when we reformed welfare, but the liberals haven’t given up.
At every turn, they try to substitute government largesse for individual responsibility. They fight to strip work requirements from welfare, to put more people on Medicaid, and to remove more and more people from having to pay any income tax whatsoever.
Dependency is death to initiative, risk-taking and opportunity. Dependency is a culture-killing drug—we have got to fight it like the poison it is!
Am I the only person in America who absolutely HATES it when a woman has fake eyebrows?
It is obvious where the eyebrow is supposed to be - the bone structure doesn’t change - so what is the point in having eyebrows drawn halfway up your forehead?
And ... all this before the birth certificate scandal breaks, before the partial live birth scandal gets even more legs and before many other possible surprises for Obama.
I am still counting on some support from bill and hill but my guess is obama is still playing with the 20 million she is short from her campaign debt. If he uses that as a lever it might go a long way to shut both of them up. We shall see.
Its looking good, but what about the chance for coat tails, will McCain be able to pull up any pubbie contenders anywhere?
Does that mean Biden has lived with his mother his entire life? THAT would make an interesting campaign ad:
“He’s lived with Mommy for 65 years...but is he ready to lead?”
I’m waiting for McCain to pick Hillary. He’d probably win the election going away, but then have a mysterious heart attack the day after the Inauguration.
Now you got me laughing again Didi,Hut sweet Hut,is just toooo good!!
Didn’t Hillary “loan” money for her campaign? If so, I wonder if that’s part of what she wants paid back.
I realize that's always been her position. What made it funny was she started out putting herself forward as a Catholic and ended up crusading for abortion.
He stuck it to her on the success of the surge, too, but she countered with some almost unintelligible wonky shite about, 'sure, you'll always get better security with more troops but the political situation blah blah was the whole point of the surge and that hasn't happened yet. It might have seemed less wonky if she'd been easier to understand, but she was rev'd up to the desperate setting, out of breath.
Speaking of wonky, she repeated her goofy little phrase about Republicans being the handmaidens to the warriors of Big Oil or something like that. It's not catchy or even rhythmic and doesn't mean anything except "bad". I think she must have made it up herself and become devoted to it.
I think Romney would be a great pick.
Oh! So great to hear from you!
We are safe, I think. We have a tornado watch until 9:00 pm, but much of that is .Gov CYA. Just nice rain and a little bit windy.
How are YOU?
“Brit Hume is not as young as he looks.”
Yes — he turned 65 on June 22. Talk about well preserved!
No. I just like Perry Como more than Sinatra.
Re: VP debating Biden. I know he will NOT do it, but I can see and hear in my mind Fred Thompson dismantling the phony little blowhard and doing it with a smile, humor, and rock solid facts. Damn! Just Damn!
