Weekly Pollster.com Electoral Map
pollster.com ^ | 8/12/08

Every Tuesday, I'm generating a map based on pollster.com's running averages of all reported state presidential polls. (I was on vacation last week.) The map shows the states sized in proportion to their electoral votes. I've also added a graph showing the trend.

For all the talk on other threads of positive movement I would dearly love to see some positive movement.

Wow, my state of Maryland is firmly in the Obama camp. Who’d a thunk that?

Well, it is obvious from your maps that the North East and California have a ton of morons.

I am not buying Obama winning in Ohio, and PA, MI, and WI will be closer than 5%.

I read why the maps look so strange, but I forgot.

mccain needs to win OH, MI & PA. I see Romney as VP as the only hope to keep us from the messaih winning.

Romney would cost McCain OH,MI, and PA on the gun issue alone.

Very soon, we should see Virginia flip to McCain. Montana should have already flipped.

That leaves Colorado and Ohio as the two battleground states that McCain absolutely must win. Polls in those states are mixed, but McCain has been ahead in some of them in both states recently.

McCain is well within striking distance. He just needs a signature issue to put him over the top by giving people a compelling reason to vote FOR him.

Energy seems the most likely, but he is still struggling to fully grasp it and make it his own.

I think Rove is right on the money with his analysis of the state of the race.

In reality, a few cities (New York, Chicago, LA, San Francisco) have a huge effect on presidential elections. California, Illinois, and New York combined represent 107 electoral votes, and with winner take all those electoral votes are really a representation of what the cities in those states vote. The real demographic split in our country is not state to state, but city vs. non-city. Flip just one state, California, to the McCain column and he is ahead in electoral votes. Not going to happen, but important to realize.

Beware of the unpredictable youth vote. They came out of nowhere in Iowa and put Obama into the race, when Hillary was clearly considered the one to beat.

Rove is not looking at this very closely. His chart resembles the RCP registered voter polls way too much.

Rove’s electoral vote analysis is exactly the same as pollster.com’s (on which I base my map) when you take the toss up states and give them to the candidate who has the numerical lead (with the exception of Ohio, which Rove as as an exact dead heat and which pollster gives barely to Obama right now.)

Wow, that’s a tough map! Assuming McCain takes FL, OH, MO, and VA (not a sure thing) and CO (also not a sure thing) still doesn’t get him to 270.

Rove has Obama with almost enough EV before the toss ups added in. Mccain better get busy real fast or he going to be spread to thin across to many states.

We are a country full of morons. Its still kinda early but this looks bad.

Yah...almost (talk to algore about "almost").Every state that Rove lists as a tossup was carried by W in '04.Assuming that Rove is on the money with the map shown above this thing is *very* doable by McLame.
