But Lieberman supports the war in Iraq, so what if he's pro-abortion and a lib on practically every other issue that could be named. But the Romney-haters should be pleased that maybe Joe has catapulted above Mitt on the short-list.
Where is that bullsh#t meter? No way. If McCain picked Lieberman his campaign would be over and he knows it. McCain will pick someone younger and more conservative.
I’ve also heard Ridge bantered around. If McCain chooses anyone but a conservative he is going to find himself a very lonely man. There are somethings that we can overlook and it would be a pity since he has did such a good job of late to throw it all away because of bad advice and an insider politics perspective. The VP isn’t going to deliver a state.
That is a pipe dream that history proves almost never happens and so what if one candidate can deliver one state but ticks off potential voters so much you lose typically easy win red states? McCain should ride his increasing popularity and his demonstrated integrity in his ability to tell people to their face how he disagrees with them. He did it to Ellen, he did it to the Urban league, and he did it to Iowa Farmers. This is refreshing. He may not be the man unafraid that I envisioned but that is the type of leader we’ve needed. If George Bush had been a tougher kind of President less inclined to make nice he would be a much better standing now. People will fight for you if you show you have fight in you.
Now that I think about this, I think the answer is that this is a deliberate leak to prepare the way for the real announcement.
“OK, base, we understand your pain. Since you are so dead set against Lieberman, we have considered your feelings, gone back to the drawing board, and have chosen that good, conservative Republican, Gov. Crist.”
Or words to that effect.
In other words, put something really horrible out there, and then do something just a little less horrible. The lesser of two evils principles strikes again.
Somehow this strikes me as a "briar patch" gambit.
If so, I hope his list includes some thoughts on his next line of employment. Not featuring the word “President.” Unless it’s “President of the John McCain Fan Club.”
NO liberals!
NO Lieberman, NO Giuliani, NO Romney!
A conservative on the GOP ticket would be best.
Actually, from a tactical standpoint this would be a good move.
McCain continues moving to the middle, thereby narrowing Obama’s ‘target market’ to the kook-fringe left.
I’m not saying I agree with the move so put away the flame throwers.
Pretty much sums up the spoiled, arrogant, whimsical admiral's son.
Perfect.
Now I thought Lieberman has already said he is not interested.
Could have sworn the headline said "Lieberman 'on McCain short-bus'.
I don’t believe it.
Figures that Lieberman was McCain’s pick for VP running mate...the one pick to which most conservatives did not want ended up being the pick by McCain...McCain/Lieberman ‘08....ouch like Rush said: “We are really screwed.”
If Senator Lieberman wants to run for Vice-President, there's no reason he shouldn't.
The best thing he could do is get Joe to caucus with the GOP.
I still can not believe that there are McCain apologist here at FR. Too bad some here are more Republican than Conservative.
lieberman was veted....he LOST along with the algore.
Perhaps just mentioning Cantor and Lieberman helps Johnny with the Jewish vote. Let’s hope so.
