ABC News' Jennifer Parker reports: Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of former Sen. John Edwards has reacted to the news of her husband's affair, posting a blog titled "Today" on the liberal Daily Kos website and asking for privacy for her family.
In the blog, Elizabeth Edwards says her husband told her about the affair in 2006 and they worked through it. "This was our private matter," she writes.
She heaps blame on the news media for prying into her family's life, writing, "the toll on our family of news helicopters over our house and reporters in our driveway is yet unknown."
She disputes the National Enquirer allegations that her husband fathered a child outside of their marriage.
The Elizabeth Edwards blog on Daily Kos reads: "Our family has been through a lot. Some caused by nature, some caused by human weakness, and some most recently caused by the desire for sensationalism and profit without any regard for the human consequences. None of these has been easy. But we have stood with one another through them all. Although John believes he should stand alone and take the consequences of his action now, when the door closes behind him, he has his family waiting for him.
"John made a terrible mistake in 2006. The fact that it is a mistake that many others have made before him did not make it any easier for me to hear when he told me what he had done. But he did tell me. And we began a long and painful process in 2006, a process oddly made somewhat easier with my diagnosis in March of 2007.

Plus she figures to marry John Boy as soon as Elizabeth is no more. Disgusting, sicko people. What kind of mother will she be?
Not if the mistress received money from the federally regulated campaign.
Mrs. Edwards, like Mrs. Spitzer, assumed the silver-tongued weasel would only lie to the outside world.
She’s a certified moonbat.
Poet...her cancer is terminal (incurable). It’s stage 4 which means it has spread and the only treatment is to try to prevent further spreading for as long as possible.
Perhaps the late, great, Dr. Johnson may shed some light on this topic: “He did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney.” Seem as if Edwards and Clinton misread their Descartes; it was cogito ergo sum, not copulo ergo sum!
so very true
The Edwards children are innocent bystanders and deserve sympathy. However, John Edwards is responsible for this drama and is responsible for any pain inflicted on his own family. The National Inquirer did not do the 'deed'; it only exposed this creep. Incidently, Larry Craig was also responsible for any pain inflicted on his family and earned his own exposure.
Ethyl Kennedy, Gary Hart’s wife, Hillary Clinton, Mrs. Edwards...
Do I see a pattern here? I guess these are the strong independent women our girls are supposed to grow up like. Their husbands can screw whoever they want on the side or even in the house. The wives are going to trash anyone who criticizes the husband for having done so.
Atta girl Mrs (doormat) Edwards...
I don’t post often, but your post prompted me to. I too prayed for Mrs. Edwards, as sincerely as I did for Tony Snow. Party doesn’t matter when cancer is in play. Would not wish that on anyone. . .unlike George Cloony who thought it was great that Charlton Heston had Alzheimer’s. I just buried my MIL on 7/27. The hell she went through with Alz for the last 12 years was unfathomable. . .
...when will Barrack Hussein Obama be exposed.
I feel for his kids. Having to go through life knowing daddy was not only a scumbag lawyer but also a Clintonite.
Also, the baby, named Francis Quinn Hunter is in the room with John and Rielle. Did they put a pacifier in her mouth before the horizontal???? Do you do that in the same, single room where the baby is located????Seems a little low-rent to me???
But he was visiting the 5 month old child of a friend. Yes, yes, that's it. He spent 5 1/2 hours visiting the baby.
She planned the pregnancy. Anyone believe John wanted her to get pregnant? This is 2008 and the pregnancy was not a mistake on her part. She has plans and they include his name and his money; she figures the child will help secure her plans. Waiting to see what happens next.
I don’t care what she says. He’s a slimebag and she’s something of an idiot. Granted he’s a great provider (but then, Al Capone was too), but living with a lowlife like Edwards has got to take a toll . . .
Sorry, it’s hard to look tough in a prom outfit.
Of course, mine was powder blue...but it was 1978.
I don't want an adulterous man and mistress who conceived a child out of wedlock near the White house.
And I don't give out cookies to woman who are too stupid practice birth control. Or do so intentionally in order to breakup a marriage.
Someone has to say it.
It ain’t Bush’s fault. Hehee
The Bushes are exceptional people with a good marriage and have more class then the Edwards and Clintons put together.
As a cancer survivor, I agree completely.
But I have trouble letting Mrs. Edwards use cancer as a pass for her husband's lying and for her blaming all of their problems on Republicans, tabloid reporters and everything but her husband and the Democrat philosophy.
