ABC News' Jennifer Parker reports: Elizabeth Edwards, the wife of former Sen. John Edwards has reacted to the news of her husband's affair, posting a blog titled "Today" on the liberal Daily Kos website and asking for privacy for her family.
In the blog, Elizabeth Edwards says her husband told her about the affair in 2006 and they worked through it. "This was our private matter," she writes.
She heaps blame on the news media for prying into her family's life, writing, "the toll on our family of news helicopters over our house and reporters in our driveway is yet unknown."
She disputes the National Enquirer allegations that her husband fathered a child outside of their marriage.
The Elizabeth Edwards blog on Daily Kos reads: "Our family has been through a lot. Some caused by nature, some caused by human weakness, and some most recently caused by the desire for sensationalism and profit without any regard for the human consequences. None of these has been easy. But we have stood with one another through them all. Although John believes he should stand alone and take the consequences of his action now, when the door closes behind him, he has his family waiting for him.
"John made a terrible mistake in 2006. The fact that it is a mistake that many others have made before him did not make it any easier for me to hear when he told me what he had done. But he did tell me. And we began a long and painful process in 2006, a process oddly made somewhat easier with my diagnosis in March of 2007.

Obviously, it ain't now. And, she posts it on Daily Kos.
I wonder how many Democrats have actually checked out that website, and seen the hate speech spewed there by the minute.
Even if the motive was base, I remain glad that Ms. Hunter brought the baby to term. I place no wager but money may not be the motive when the ovi are past maximum freshness.
She needs to just stop the hypocrisy anyway, Edwards himself, while running, made some statement to a reporter about how those who run for public office shouldn’t expect to not have their personal lives scrutinised. (I’ll try to find the quote) I suppose when he said that, he arrogantly thought it would apply to others (preferably Republicans), but not him.
Maybe you are right on both counts.
If she chose to allow him to continue his relationship, that is her business I guess. But the lies are what most are upset about. And also, if he wanted to do this, having a mistress and a wife with wife’s permission, why run for President?
She posted at DU during the 2004 election! Wish her well with the health and all, but what a far-left goon.
I don’t understand the fuss - this is the business of Edwards, his wife, his mistress, and no one else. And I say that as someone who loathes Edwards.
Yeah, tell that to the news media. The new Edwards megamonsterhouse is about three miles down the road from us. There are vans from every major area news outlet camped out right across the road from his driveway entrance, even at 2230!
“Yep. John Edwards always hides behind his sick wife and uses her as an attack dog.”
So did Clinton and so many others. It’s amazing the number of intelligent, successful women who still suffer this kind of denial. Stunning. I want to see one of them walk out and slap the guy right upside the head. I have a relative, sweet, beautiful, who would find a way to defend her old man and blame someone else if he was standing over the body holding the gun and admitted he did it. Stunning. I suppose men have the same bad denial trait, but it seems women are much better at it.

Interesting conjecture, considering John Edwards is perhaps dealing with a woman scorned! She calls John Edwards to the Hotel with a sob story, makes certain Edwards will not be Vice President, and receives a cash settlement from the National Inquirer! She is paid to get even.
Typical. Her response (to the rest of us who they CONSTANTLY lecture to) was basically this:
F_c% Off!!
Lady - when your Husband rammed his Liberal Crap down own throats as a Senator and a Presidential Candidate - it was a very Public Matter.
Tell your rich only-because-he-is-an-anbulance-chasing-jerk of a "Husband" to go find his "Two Americas" someplace else.
Good luck lady with your cancer and the rest of your life. You will need it. Next time, don't trust a Democrat Trial Lawyer.
Perel of the NE just said on CNN that Edwards had 2 “meetings” with Rielle at the same hotel. One in June and one in July.
Easy. He was counseling. He's been called counselor so many times he believes it.
I saw that movie! That was really good and I have teetered on my views on polygamy since then. Not that I’m all for it, but I understand how a woman who knows she is dying would want to cultivate a relationship between someone she likes and respects with her husband and children.
So sad though.
Why should they care more about the family of the lying sack of sh$% called John Edwards?
Sure you are ill but was the family of Larry Craig ill, did anyone care?
Answer is that the media knew all along but hid it because Edwards has that D behind his name, family be damned!
We can speak of all sorts of Republicans the media has put through the wringer, Clarence Thomas comes to mind but no one ever asks the question, "What about their families" so buck up honey, it was he who screwed up NOT the media.
The MSM did their bit, they covered it up until they could do no longer.
Anything is possible. Either way, the child is breathing.
That is all that counts. The rest of this sordid situation will work its way out one way or the other.
Ha! I knew she wouldn’t kick him to the curb. She’s just as addicted to money and power as he is.
