Rather, what percentage of men under the age of 30 have a 12V impact wrench, a 120V impact wrench and a 4-way lug wrench along with a bottle jack, a floor jack and (for those out-of-the-way pneumatic interludes) a manual ratcheting-type jack?

Think about the side effect here, as well - males have to make themselves worthy instead of baggie pantsed Kurt Cobain wannabes.

But there are some pretty serious political implications to all of this navelgazing.
The political prism through which I judge the sociology of sex comes from an understanding of the Frankfurt School which was founded explicitly to undermine those features of Western civilization which acted to prevent the ultimate triumph of communism. These Marxist intellectuals identified several institutions such as nationalism and the church and, of course, the family. The family is of course the basic building block of society. If the family crumbles, everything disintegrates. One need only look at our inner cities to see illustrated the truth of this proposition.
If you can destroy it the figure of the father, you can destroy the family. If you can destroy the family you get Marxist utopia. Here is what Dr. Atkinson said in a fascinating lecture:
The Frankfurt School theorized that the authoritarian personality is a product of the patriarchal family. This idea is in turn directly connected to Frederich Engels' 'The Origins of the Family, Private Property and the State,' which promotes matriarchy. The evidence that psychological techniques for changing personality is intended to mean emasculation of the American male is provided by Abraham Maslow, founder of Third Force Humanist Psychology and promoter of the psychotherapeutic classroom, who wrote that, '...the next step in personal evolution is a transcendence of both masculinity and femininity to general humanness.' The Marxist revolutionaries knew exactly what they wanted to do and how to do it. They have succeeded in accomplishing much of their agenda.

There are probably as many reasons for joining the military as there are people in the military. Most of course lean in the direction of service to their nation, gratitude, adventure, and self-realization. Sadly, there are some who do so for no reason other than pure ambition, and use the military as their stepping stone.

The troubling outcome of all this is, the intelligent men are not marring and having children. Society will digress into a bunch of third worlders. There is nothing anybody can do to stop it. Thanks new women!

Ditto. I’m in Seattle, and I know great fathers of every political stripe - the area is not as universally liberal as people seem to think. I see no shortage of good men raising good kids. And I bet every one can change a tire.

I don't have any real insight on it. He served in the Army right out of college, but now works for a Democratic Senator on the Hill.
