Eric Cantor on Energy, Obama
August 4, 2008 by Media Lizzy
Earlier today, Chief Deputy Republican Whip Eric Cantor, VA-7, participated in the McCain campaign morning press call. After his appearance on my show last Friday, just as the House GOP was beginning to inspire the Twitter revolution - via users with the #dontgo hashtag, I went on to break (before the MSM) that Cantor was being vetted by Arthur A. B. Culvahouse as a potential running mate for John McCain. One thing comes to mind Yes We CANTOR!
From Earlier today, in COngressman Cantors own words:
We are here on the call today to really begin to look at what we are going to hear for the rest of the day, which is the unveiling of Barack Obamas energy plan for the future. I think it comes at a time when everyone looks around and sees that the American people are really hurting. I know here in my home state of Virginia I have talked to seniors on fixed incomes who just cannot deal with $4 a gallon gas. Weve got police forces, school systems, small businesses that are really buckling up under the pressure of the sky-high gas prices.
So it is clear that this is an issue that is very important to our economy and to the families of America. And I believe that what we will see today is Barack Obama attempting to paint a picture of an energy plan that frankly is not based on developing more American energy supply. I believe that anyone who says that we can achieve energy independence in this country without that, without more nuclear power without more offshore drilling, without more clean coal, doesnt have the experience to understand the problem we are faced with or isnt being straightforward to the American people.
Yes We CANTOR.

They were kicked out.
There ARE a few good men (and women) in the House. Woo Hoo!

There is no reason we can’t do this. We are innovative and motivated to solve problems in this country.

I’m here on the House Floor today to ensure that the energy discussion continues in Washington. 5 minutes ago from web
(Sorry those weren’t individuals, I got coffee)
Not actually my claim, that’s why in the beginning I posted;
“I can’t give personal knowledge, but we know Cuba, China and Chavez are out there,
that’ll have to have some Sailors, Coast Guard or Floaters give witness too;”
but in this case, we know, Americans should get the oil before they do.
Thanks....
We’ve got Boswell over here...hopeless!!!
Here’s a text I just sent to my Congresscritter, Chris Smith 4th NJ: Feel free to plagiarize. Go FReepers!
Dear Mr. Smith:
I just left a message with your Hamilton office. Im writing to make sure the message is unmistakably clear. Please head straight down to Washington and join the other Republican Congressmen who are standing up for the American people today. They are demanding that House Speaker Pelosi re-open debate and bring to the floor a vote on lifting the moratorium on offshore oil drilling. This is of the most vital importance to restoring American energy independence at a time when we are facing no less than an economic emergency with high fuel prices imposing tremendous costs on the needs of average American families. Even more importantly, energy independence means we can stop sending $700,000,000,000.00 to countries that do not have Americas best interests at heart, we can stop compromising American foreign policy to coddle oil tyrants and their terrorist surrogates and we can re-establish the Constitutional principle that the government rules for the people.
It goes without saying that the standing of the Republican Party will be vastly enhanced going into November if the American people see that the GOP is really fighting for them.
DRILL HERE, DRILL NOW, WIN IN NOVEMBER!!!
Sincerely,
Whew finally caught up with all the posts. BEFORE coffee.
So, does anyone know how many Pubbies are there today?
Kick butt Rep Rob!
From Twitter.....
I just spoke on the House Floor and challenged the Speaker to call us back in session to debate and vote on a comprehensive energy policy.

All those Botox injections have finally fried her brain....LOL
I was proud to vote for Roskam before I left IL.
Here’s the applicable part of what the Senate did before its I-Can’t-Believ-It’s-Not-A-Recess stunt to keep things open (from thomas.loc.gov):
Pro Forma Sessions—Agreement: A unanimous-consent agreement was reached providing that on the following days Senate convene for pro forma sessions with no business conducted, that following each pro forma session Senate recess until the next pro forma session, and that when Senate completes its pro forma session on Friday, September 5, 2008, Senate be adjourned until 3:00 p.m. on Monday, September 8, and resume consideration of the motion to proceed to consideration of S. 3001, National Defense Authorization Act:
Tuesday, August 5 at 10:00 a.m.;
Friday, August 8 at 11:00 a.m.;
Tuesday, August 12 at 2:00 p.m.;
Friday, August 15 at 10:00 a.m.;
Tuesday, August 19 at 9:00 a.m.;
Friday, August 22 at 10:00 a.m.;
Tuesday, August 26 at 2:00 p.m.;
Friday, August 29 at 2:00 p.m.;
Tuesday, September 2 at 12:00 p.m.;
Friday, September 5 at 9:30 a.m.
So this “unanimous” consent for pro-forma sessions are even called what they are—formalities done with no intent to accomplish anything but fulfill the letter of the law. Regardless, I see no reason why this should precluse the ability of the Pres. to call the house back into session.
