After the Northridge quake, I had to move from one office at Olympic and Sepulveda to North Hollywood just a few hours after the shaker hit. There were tons of aftershocks but I never felt them driving (thank goodness). The office in West LA was trashed - the office in the Valley was perfectly fine. Go figure.
Thanks for the map. No damage here either. It did feel pretty strong here though.

When I was stationed in California in the 60’s I was in 3, two small and one in the low 6’s. It was not good IMO. One gets use to having your feet on the ground, it sort of destroys that piece of mind.
Hearing a lot of strong jolt on the news... high ground acceleration is my guess...The 1994 Northridge, California is known to be the record holder for such in the So Cal. area....
I too, didn't think it was funnyeiter but, I don't recall gridlock's ever being deliberately cruel. And, besides, he has alreasy apoligized for his unintentional, seeming-insensitive comment. Don't you think it's time to accept his apology and quit beating a dead horse?
The Northridge quake was strange in that you could be a five miles east of it and be just fine, but twenty miles south of it and have serious problems. The fault evidently ran right down to West LA and beyond.

The vast majority of earthquakes are over so quick that by the time you figure out it's a quake, it's done. I lived in Southern California for 22 years and managed to miss every big one.
I was in the Sylmar earthquake. I remember seeing waves of earth rolling along down the street in an aftershock. I still get of bit jumpy after quakes. We were in Sylmar when that quake hit, and were without running water for a week. It was very strange to turn on the radio and they didn’t even know what had happened and thought that it was minor.
But I don’t think people feel earthquakes when they are driving. Today hubby took my car to fill it up when it hit. He didn’t feel a thing. With some areas having the power lines buried, it is harder to tell if there is a quake going on. Just like when there are aftershocks, if you are standing up, you may not feel it as much as when your sitting down.

No. If they lasted long enough for you to get queasy, you’d have much bigger problems than that. It’s more like trying to stay balanced while standing on a board that has a pipe or barrel under it that rolls around—something you may have tried as a kid.
You're welcome, NRA2BFree. There's some structural damage reports coming in. Thus far, no reports of injuries. It's interesting to read reports of what people felt further out from the epicenter.
