North Carolina sheriff's deputies left the children of an arrested illegal immigrant woman on the side of a highway overnight stranded in a car, attorneys say.
Lawyers for Maria Chavira Ventura say she was stopped June 14 for a traffic violation along Interstate 85 in Alamance County, N.C. Deputies arrested her for driving without a license, leaving her three children, ages 14, 10 and 6, alone in the car with a man they barely knew, the Raleigh (N.C.) News & Observer reported Wednesday.
The man, a church acquaintance who was catching a ride with Ventura, abandoned the children in the car, where they stayed for eight hours before their father, also an illegal immigrant, arrived to rescue them, the newspaper said.
Lawyers with the North Carolina Justice Center told the News & Observer they are investigating the incident. Sheriff's Department officials said they handled Ventura's arrest according to their policies.
I’d like to hear what Mom and the guy told the cops - I’d be interested to find out if Mom told the officers that the stranger was the kids’ dad or uncle or whatever so the kids WOULDN’T be taken by the authorities.
Mom was wrong; the cops were wrong. None of the adults in this story behaved reasonably or responsibly. I’m glad the kids are okay
Yes, and I'm sure if you saw a man and a woman with 3 kids in a car and the woman was the kids' mother, you would assume that the man was a stranger and not the father.
Or maybe you're the type who believes that U.S. police should know every language of every illegal immigrant in this country so that they never misinterpret any situation ever.

If the cops questioned her immigration status, her "rights" are violated.
I don't care what any law says. Illegal aliens dont have citizenship rights and protections, and I continue to believe that it's what the founders intended.
If they questioned her marital status, it would be infinitely worse.
The only remaining option is to assume the male is their father, unless told otherwise.
Of course, it could be their father, but illegal aliens never lie...

“The girl said something to the mother in Spanish,” Jones said. “And the officer said the mother looked at him and nodded.”

I don’t want to break up families either. Send the woman, her illegal husband, and all the children back where they came from. Deportation is NOT a ‘hardline’, it is the law. They don’t belong here.......period.

Please, do not compare the illegals of today with the immigrants that come over here through Ellis Island. Contrary to belief, alot of immigrants returned to their home countries because it was sink or swim when you got here. NO FREEBEE’’S, yes the immigrants of yesterday built this country, at the same time they were not sucking the country dry with social programs.
Oh, and if 99% are so grateful and want such a good life for their children, explain to me why the children of illegals have the highest drop out rates and they are surpassing every other ethnic group with regard to unwed teen pregnancy? Guess the FREE education doesn’t really mean all that much to them. We have a school here that is predominately illegal children, the middle school has now turned into a gang recruitment center, so much for a better life.

The social issues you talk about are also very serious and real and part of system of beliefs and habits that are brought in from the “old country”...But wasn't this true for every major immigrant group that came in waves over our history..the Irish..the Italians..the Eastern Europeans...
Again...In no way do I want to come across as pro-illegal immigration...I only wish to make the point that when the policy of “kick’em out” in actually inforced, there are good, decent people that get pulled into a system that treats them like criminals...
